Eastern Airlines MIA-SFO

I haven't posted anything for years. Last time I posted a question and don't remember what the answers were, so here we go again:

When I was 5, I flew with my family MIA-SFO. My mother and father claim it was on a 747. I have been looking on the internet to confirm this, but I have not found a web site to do it.

Is there anyway to find this out? If it helps, it was August 1981.

It would have been an L-1011 or A300, prior to their bankruptcy Eastern flew mostly A300s during the 1980s between MIA and SFO, the years after their bankruptcy (1989-1991) they flew a 757-200 on the MIA-SFO route.

Eastern did operate 747s leased from Pan Am for a brief period, however this was during the early 1970s and were used to meet their capacity demands while waiting for their L-1011s to be delievered. They did not operate with Eastern anytime during the 1980s.

I'll check, but offhand I'm guessing EA never flew a TriStar nonstop SFO-MIA. Maybe SFO-LAX-MIA, tho.

An SFO-LAX-MIA PA 747 isn't out of the question.

I can assure you it was non-stop flight, this because my parents chose it this way (we are 5 children), but don't know which airplane it was. I also know it was Eastern, because it was the only time we flew on them. Just out of curiosity, how are you going to check? (thanks by the way)

It was Eastern flight EA501, in 1981 flown with an Airbus A300 leaving MIA at about 5 pm and getting to SFO at about 8 pm. If any of you can recall how you were seated inside the airplane, the A300 seats 2-4-2 while a 747 would be 3-4-3. An Eastern L1011 would be either 2-5-2 or 3-3-3.

Only partially correct. No EA TriStar was ever equipped with 3-3-3 (AFAIK). BA had a 3-3-3 config on their TriStars around 1990. I have my 1990 BA system Timetable in front of me to confirm this....

I remember that I was seating with my twin brother, my mother and a stranger. This means we were in the middle seats, but it does not clarify the question whether it was a 747 or an a300. It seems, though, that Eastern did not fly the 747 that year, so it must have been the a300. Thanks.

Correct. I believe all BA L1011-1s used within Europe had charter-type 10-abreast seating in Y class. Their L1011-500s used rather briefly on longhaul routes were 9-abreast.

Indeed. The 3-3-3 was in Club Europe (C-class) rows 1-24 while rows 25-41 were 3-4-3 Economy (listed as M class).
