Recently I met a group of AI directors whom I asked the topic's question and they have confirmed that in the very next future we shold see the airline back to Rome. Any further news about that?

I have no idea as there is no announcement from AI. I am wondering where will they fly beyond FCO?? Or will the flight (depending on if it starts) just terminate in Roma??

Currently, all AI flights to Canada and the United States stop in Europe. According to various rumors, AI wants to add more American cities, such as IAD, IAH, and SFO, to its network. If all these rumors are true, maybe AI flights to IAH or SFO would stop in FCO. After all, there are no direct flights between SFO and IAH and Italy. Of course, all of this assumes that AI can obtain fifth freedom rights from FCO to these cities.

Just as for ET, with its new ADD-FCO-IAD service...

Anyway, even if it was an India/Italy/India flight it wouldn't have any load factor problems, considering the huge Indian community spread throughout our country. And AI would compete with AZ (which already flies to DEL from MXP) on the Italian market.

UA is just starting IAD-FCO service as well. If AI flies from FCO to the United States, it will probably choose SFO or IAH.

AI and AZ would not necessarily compete directly. AZ would fly from MXP while AI would fly to FCO. Also, AI may fly from BOM instead of DEL.

That was not a rumor, actually, as the specified source was more than reliable. And the thread you mentioned didn't appear in the "similar threads" list shown before posting. Thanks anyway.

Oh come on, with 1000+ posts on anet I did expect you to quote a year+ old thread and claim it as definitive. Decisions change on a whim in India.

Couldn't agree with you more on this.

Look at the B772LR delivery date schedule, its been pushed to June, even 9W is taking their 77W's before AI's LRs, that just goes to show, things can change with AI  Smile
