According to the Brunei Times, Air Asia X plan to purchase ten more A330s.

MALAYSIAN long-haul budget airline pioneer AirAsia X said it is in talks with Airbus to purchase 10 more Airbus A330-300 aircraft, the New Straits Times reported yesterday.

AirAsia X operator, Fly Asian Express (FAX), last week signed an order with Airbus, of up to 10 of the aircraft and an option for five more, to begin its long-haul services.

Year of the A350? More like year of the A330 if all these reported orders happen!

How careless of them - they must of been on the plane on the way back from the negotiations and gone "oops I was sure I'd forgotten something - oh yeah we need 10 more A330s!"

I wonder if this is a mistake on the part of the paper and they're really talking about A350s?

I wonder if they are ordering more A330's before Qatar or Emirates possibly place an order for the aircraft model. Perhaps if they had left this add on order any longer, there would not have been any spaces available for a long time on the A330 assembly line.

The order is in regards to the A330-300. Air AsiaX (FAX) expects to be operating a fleet of 25 A333's within five years. In order for them to secure those slots they have to move fast, before other airlines such as (EK,QR ) have their say.  Smile

All those A330 orders could be good news for the 767, if A330s slots completley dry up.

Yeah, no kidding! I really don't think Airbus' proposed output of 10 frames per month is going to cut it! I mean, are the likes of QR and EK really prepared to wait 3-4 years for their 330s?

Yes, I would think they really need to ramp up production somehow. Not by too much though. Perhaps 11-13 frames per month? Would that ever be possible without opening another line.

What does ramping up A330 production by a few aircraft a month actually entail? More components, machinery, staff?

It may be in conjunction with a quiet ramping down of A340 production, but I beleive that the A345/6 are built on a separate FAL to the A332/333/343 so this may be an issue. I do know that the A300 hall is probably not suitable as it's almost too small for an A300!
