While playing with expedia I found that AF will be sending 747-400s on the CDG-YYZ-CDG routes starting sometime this month. AF will join KL, KE and sometimes LH as the only pax 747 operators to YYZ.

BA still sends 747-400s to YYZ, don't they?

AF is sending the 747-400 as of yesterday up the end of October to YYZ. Went out full both days so far.

BA sends a 747-400 as does KLM which alternates that and a 777 depending on the day and if 692 / 696 are both operating.

Is there any chance that AF will operate its future A380s on the CDG-YYZ route? The new Pier F at YYZ does have some A380 capable gates.

With the summer rush on the horizon, several YYZ operators are going to or already have switched to larger equipment.

LH- A346 from A343 or A333
AF- B744 from A343
MA-B763 from B762

who else?

Hi,

KrissYYZ,

For AF, YYZ is a low yield destination like BA for YUL. AF 747's don't have first class and mainly serve low yields.

It is not a so good new from AF at YYZ!

AF serves YUL with 777 (First class) and 747.

YYZ required really more capacity from AF during the summer.

With the B744, AF will offer 396 seats daily on CDG-YYZ. With 40J, this represents 10,1 % of the seats offered.
Previously, with the A343, AF was offering 291 seats daily on that route. With 30J, it represented 10,31 % of the capacity offered.
So there is no "not so good news" for AF about this, and the yield, even low, should be preserved.

AF operates 3 x Daily flights to YUL during the summer season. Only one of them is offereing First Class (B77W) and not everyday (the combination is B744 + B744 + A343 or B77W + B744 + A343).
Despite this, YUL is (along with JFK) one of the most profitable route on the North American network for AF.

Aside from Montreal being the biggest French speaking city other than Paris, there is a huge immigrant population in Montreal and neighbouring Quebec City, Sherbrooke, and Ottawa. The African and Middle Eastern comprise the bulk of that group.

When I was living in Ottawa, everytime my family went to Algeria we would fly out of YUL, and we only used YYZ once out of the 9 times we went to Algeria from Canada. AF offers great connections to CMN, ALG, TUN, BEY etc. via CDG. Also, I heard this year they're offering very competitive prices to flights to North Africa. My buddy up in Montreal bought a roundtrip ticket with AF to ALG, departing mid-June and it only cost him CND $1200. Not bad for peak summer travel.

Cheers,
Imad

Thanks for the info!

I would have thought that YYZ was a strong route for AF. AC, TS and Zoom all operate routes to CDG, so I guess there is enough capacity to France.

Just to mention was at the airport earlier and there was a beautiful sight 3 B747s of AF, KL, and BA! Now thats what YYZ should be receiving!

I don't see why you're saying this. The A343 is also a 2 class A/C for AF. So the 744 is a great increase in capacity.

I thought IAD was even more profitable for AF than JFK ?

Canada is a volume market, not a yield market. The shorter stage length vs higher average revenue per mile ensures that trans-atlantic high density operations remain profitable for network carriers.

That is alot of sched metal from the same city pairs on one day. Is there any other similar city pairs with more volume (one airline, not talking codeshare) sched?

This is not unusual frequency for AF on its long-haul network :
CDG-JFK : 5 to 6 daily flights
CDG-LAX and CDG-IAD : 2 to 3 daily flights each
CDG-NRT : 3 daily flights

AF plans to operate 4 x Daily on CDG-YUL next summer 2008.
It should be reduced to 3 x Daily for the summer 2009, with one of them operated by an A380.

Support Airliners.net - become a First Class Member!

I remember an airline-ad in the southern Ontario area some years ago that went something like this:

"When in Montreal, we are allready at 30000 feet on our way to (some European destination)"

Sorry -can't remember the airline, it was so long ago, but I thought it was quite a good reason to fly out of YYZ instead of YUL or maybe it was still YMX in those days.
