Hi all:

So the big girl is all set to come to Indian Soil on the 7th and will ferry between DEL and BOM till the 10th. They are coming for IT's 2nd anniversary and is supposed to be a big affair!

Vijay Mallya as usual has planned a big do for its arrival and i happen to be one of the lucky ones to get to fly on it on the 7th when it arrives!

Thats not bad.... im happy after all the major hubs in the world, the A380 is finally coming to India!

many regards
nitin

PS: anyone who has anymore information please post it.

Talk about Timing.  Sad
I'm on holiday at GOI between 6th-12th.Be back in BOM on 12th.
I would have def drove to the Tarmac parking lot to view this.

I still feel the Taxipath may be an issue.

I can speak for BOM but in DEL its going to be operating out of the Hajj terminal... That should be interesting since i have never been to that terminal. I guess its good for the authorities, that ways they can deal with allt he A380 passengers seperately without distupting the normal traffic.

I guess its arrival will truly test the readyness of the airports...

Is there any rumor about an Indian Airline (besides Kingfisher) buying it?

Well as of now... there are a few expectations from 9W to buy the A380... further, i am hopeful AI will also consider it after the merger. Well, now that its visiting india im sure some of the other airlines will take a closer look at it. To be honest, the only airline si can really think of who will actually consider it is 9W and AI as mentioned earlier.

PS: I wouldnt even be surprised if IT orders a few more. Maybe not this year but next year.

Well IT is about 17000 INR (DEL to BOM) so roughly 17000x3 = Rs. 51,000 or 1214 usd$. So its quite expensive. And these are one way fares.
Oh and ofcourse, these are Kingfisher First tickets.

Brilliant...

Just the other day (during 'Airbus Day' on Discovery turbo) we could watch Leahy promising the boss of Kingfisher that the A380 would come to India for airport compatibility tests etc.

That must have been filmed a couple of years ago and now here we are.  Smile

Quote:
Senior Airbus executives pointed out that even though most of its 15-odd airline customers globally for A380 want to use the aircraft for long-haul inter-continental flights, there was scope for flying the superjumbo for short-haul travel, lasting two to four hours, especially in large countries such as India and China.

“A380 has the capability to carry 850 people on board in an all-economy configuration — which is 100 more passengers than what the Radhani Express carries — at per seat cost which is less than train cost,” said Mr Leahy. Typically, the flight time for connecting metros will be anywhere between two to three hours, as compared to at least 18 hours through Rajdhani Express.

Incidentally, Air Deccan managing director G R Gopinath, who was on board the flight from Toulouse to Delhi on Sunday, has shown interest in acquiring an A380 and fly it on domestic destinations, said Mr Leahy. “We are sure some smart airline operator would see value in the proposition,” he added.

However, one hitch for prospective A380 customers in India would be the delivery schedule. The earliest that Airbus would be able to deliver aircraft on new orders would be 2012-13. “Our production lines are booked for the next five years,” said Mr Leahy.

Wouldn't AI also closely consider the 747-8i? ....it may actually be more suitable for their operations.....
