I was riding my bike around YIP today and I saw a forward section of some sort of airliner. It was laying on its side and was too far away for me to get a good view of. The area of the airport I saw this at was the northwest corner closest to the GM plant. When I got back onto Ecorse road, headed east, I noticed another forward section sitting upright, near the other. Does anyone know what planes these were? I didn't see any other parts laying about so I was wondering why they might be keeping these parts? The sections looked to be from the tip of the nose back to the forward door.

Another question. Everytime I am at YIP I see a bunch of L188s, but they never move and some of them have no engines. What is going on with them? Who is storing them there. Most are marked Zantop and there is a very faded sign on the terminal for Zantop International Airlines. Is Zantop still around? Who owns those L188s?

Zantop were a cargo airline that specialised in carrying auto parts and one of the reasons that why they were based close to GM at YIP.

They operated many Electras (not sure of final numbers) but went under a couple of years ago.
