Delta Summer Schedule Question

As has been discussed on here before Delta is cutting service from ATL to Florida big time starting mid Summer. This is far beyond the normal summer scheduling. As it stands right now only MCO will keep 767 service from ATL and only two times a day.

I noticed that Saturday service will be especially limited. This actually will affect me. I have booked a multiple carrier ticket through CheapTickets for Atlanta to Cuzco, Peru in August. My outbound flight is fine, but I will be coming back on a Saturday and it appears that Delta has eliminated the flight from MIA to ATL that I was supposed to connect to from LAN Peru. I checked my itinerary on CheapTickets and it says the flight still exists. However when I look at it on Delta's website it appears they have me on an earlier flight which would be impossible to connect to. Is it possible that Delta might be making some adjustments that aren't final? I was going to hold off on contacting CheapTickets until I know for sure if it has been cancelled. My LAN Peru flight from Lima gets in MIA at 5:25 and the only flight I can connect to is an American flight which leaves MIA at 9:00 pm. I am hoping that Delta might just be fine tuning their schedules and that the later flight doesn't get eliminated.

We all knew it was coming, but I will be interested to see what happens with the ATL-Florida market with Delta pulling so much service. I have flown many 757 and 767 flights from ATL to TPA, MCO and FLL and they have always been full. I can understand that Delta wants to focus on international expansion, but there are going to be a lot of overbooked flights on the ATL-Florida runs with this move...

Not entirely correct. From ATL I see currently:

to/from MCO: (Total Flights: 14 daily, up from 13 currently)
3x 767-300s
1x 767-400s

to/from TPA: (Total Flights: 11 daily, up from 10 currently)
1x 767-400

to/from JAX: (Total Flights: 10 daily)
2x 767-300s

to/from FLL: (Total Flights: 11 daily)
2x 767-300s

Most major DL cities in Florida keep at least 8 daily flights to ATL, most with 757s. So there's still A LOT of capacity from ATL to Florida. I see ATL-MIA having 10 daily flights this summer, so there's no reason that the flight you were booked on should have been eliminated as the schedule has shown 10 daily flights for the past 6 months.

SESGDL, that is the early summer schedule. My flights are in August, leaving August 16 and returning August 25 (forgot to mention the specific dates). It is during this time period that I noticed the major changes (no more 767 service to anywhere but MCO, limited Saturday service, etc.). It is my return flight from MIA - ATL on August 25th that appears to have been eliminated. It might be too early to tell for sure, that is what I wanted to see.

I also noticed that ATL-TLH has been reduced to one mainline flight (with the other flights being all regional jet service)...that's quite a drop in capacity on that route... I am starting to wonder if these aren't the final August schedules...

I had to completely ditch a vacation to MID because of DL's schedule changes. Do not book DL more than a couple months in advance for any non-routine routing and expect it to actually work out in the end. I've learned my lesson.

DL changes their schedules a lot.

Will they issue me a refund if this is permanent. There's no way I can connect to a flight that leaves 5 minutes after my incoming international flight arrives. I have yet to receive notice of this change from CheapTickets, so I assume once it's permanent they will have to handle the change. I am hoping they can just rebook me on the American flight, but might be wishful thinking.

Delta will issue you a refund since it appears that you'd be stranded overnight, as long as this trip was booked all together (sounds like it was). You'd have to deal with Cheap Tickets to see if they can put you on the AA flight, but be prepared to pay extra for it.

So they change schedules a lot, big deal. If Delta is the best option to CUZ, do it. Have you flown DL before?

I have flown delta on 7 or so round trips in the last few years. I'm skyteam elite with NW, so I do choose DL from time to time depending on where I'm headed.

This trip was to MID... DL discontinued their one daily flight about 3 weeks before it was time for my trip, and CO didn't have any seats left. I had to eat my non-refundable bed and breakfast rate.

If I ever go to MID in the future, I guarantee it will be booked on CO.
