Who is going to buy a lot of NWA? I think it might have trouble in the long run. Do you?

Ask Warren Buffet what he thinks about investing in an airline.

Airlines are notoriously bad investments for the long haul. Money can be made if you are tactical in how you invest. Within the airline industry, NW has a good shot at maintaining profitability because costs, including labor, have been driven down.

Fortune has an interesting take.

I personally wonder about what coming "open skies" treaties could mean to NW

I think European Open Skies would hurt NW much less than DL, CO, or US which have advanced european networks.

NW can focus on asia instead.

I wonder why Northwest chose the NYSE. Before bankruptcy, they were on the NASDAQ. Delta, on the other hand, was on the NYSE before bankruptcy. However, United was on the NYSE before bankruptcy, but went on the NASDAQ after exiting. And how come nobody has even considered the AMEX.

The AMEX is more of a niche player these days, plying the options and exchange-traded funds market, rather than stocks as a whole (although some bread-and-butter stocks continue to trade on the AMEX). You'll find very few high-profile companies initiate trading of their stock on the AMEX these days.

NW can't survive without DC-9's; God will not allow it. The stock will instantly tank if they try.

From what I have read on other sites, like planebusiness.com, NWA will come out of bankruptcy much leaner than DL did. It may turn out to be a good investment, much to the dismay of former AMFA members. My info contradicts yours, but at least I can name my source. Are you willing to say why you think they "might have trouble in the long run"?
