Does anyone know why there are two Air Canada 767s at MCO by Galaxy Aviation and the Continental Hangar? One is a 767-300 in new colors and the other is a 767-200 in old colors.

Perhaps getting XMed -- the -300 anyway.
Not sure if there are plans to XM the -200s.

Perhaps its for their Kids Horizons program, to bring sick kids to Disneyworld. Having them at the FBO makes sence to me. http://www.aircanada.com/en/about/community/kids.html

Not too sure when you saw it but I know that today was AC's Dreams Take Flight program, where they fly underpriviledged children to Orlando for a day so that they can enjoy the magic of Disney World. IMHO it's a great program and I think even Canadian Airlines used to have their version before too; it's all for a good cause after all!

Anyways yeah it was on the news this morning and I believe this year AC sent two jets (of well over 250 kids). I couldn't make out which they were on TV, but they could've been '67s. And I know in Toronto they departed from a hangar area (so they could hold a big departure party before leaving and hype up the event), so quite possibly they are doing the same in Orlando?

Just my two cents. The XM theory is just as likely. Big grin

Perhaps they will kill two birds with one stone and install XM while the kids are at Disney? How long does it take to install XM and how long do the kids stay?

Not sure in regards to a widebody, but I know when they retrofitted FL's a/c with them they could do the entire installation overnight. So I would guess for something like a 767 it would probably take 12+ hours. I know that with FL, they had seats pre-wired in the hangar and just swapped out the seats (and installed the XM units in those seats for a later a/c).

Well they left this morning at around 7:30ish arriving at MCO around 10:00. I'm not too sure but I believe they get back to Toronto sometime tommorrow morning. So I guess it could be possible depending on how late they return?

Okay enough of this shinanigans. Do you guys really think an airline would take 250 + plus kids to Disney World for the day, and attempt to have an aircraft overhauled while the kids parents wait at home for them. NOT!!!

It is Dreams Take Flight and nothing more.

Good on you Air Canada you have done yourself proud for another year of this event.

Yes it was the latest Dreams Take Flight operation from YYZ, involving 2 767s. Over 10,000 disabled and underprivileged children, and those with life-threatening illnesses, have been taken on day-trips to either Disneyworld in Orlando or Disneyland in California from many cities in Canada since the program started in 1990. AC donates 8 aircraft a year for these trips and the flight crews and staff and employee chaperones etc. donate their time.

As far as I know, the XM modifications take significantly longer than one day to complete and I believe all the work is being done at AC's own maintenance facilities.

Damn, so they probably left already. I wanted to get a picture of them last night when I saw them but I didn't have my camera with me. I was too tired to go back home and get the camera after work and fight the traffic.

I remember reading about this in the past in Airliners Mag where Air Canada flies sick kids or Make a Wish Foundation kids or something to Disney for a couple of days. They would only stay for a day? What are the kids going to see in a day?

I am going to check flightaware and see if they left.

Would they even XM them at MCO? This is the first time I have seen AC bring in 767s since I moved back here in March

They were also parked on the ramp near Galaxy Aviation and just east of the Continental hangar right next to each other. I doubt they would go there for XM.

Looks like they left Wednesday night back to YYZ at 11:25 and 11:28pm. Damn, now I wish I went back to the airport and got a picture of them despite me being really sleepy.

I don't know about the 767s but A320s take about 3 weeks to modify for XM. It's a huge mod involving the removal of the complete interior, installing new boxes and running a lot of wire, painting all the interior panels, re-installation and testing. Not going to get done overnight.

Dreams Take Flight runs several flights a year to Disney. The flights always leave in the middle of the night, and come back after dark. It's not a secret when they're going, so check the Dreams Take Flight (http://www.dreamstakeflight.com/) website for more info.
