Sorry guys, questions keep popping up in my head.

http://www.airliners.net/open.file?i...=1&prev_id=&next_id=1174909&size=L

in the caption of this image, it says it could go to DL instead of AI...

True, false or just a rumour? If true then if it didnt go to DL could an airline quickly buy it for its own ops even if it didnt have an order??

It was quite the rumor last month. But if DL can swing it and AI doesn't want it, DL could sure use it for the JFK-BOM run as well as taking the DKR stop out of the ATL-JNB run.

Why might Air India not want it? I must've missed something!

That rumour is nothing but a rumour. The AI 772LRs are still at Paine Field, waiting to be re-painted in the new (yet to be revealed) livery of the merged (Air India - Indian Airlines) entity.

Apparently an AI team is to visit Paine Field soon. How the new livery looks like, remains to be seen.

The Indian cabinet is requesting reviewing the 777 order (787 is safe) followed by the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines.

I think both the above conclusions, as well as the "going to DL" rumour, are wrong.....the planes are stuck in Seattle because there are some issues about the seats that are to be installed in the planes.....involves some Italian company IIRC.....

However, the livery issue will remain up in the air until the very last moment  wink  pun unintended....

Where did you get that news from.
The Truth is that they are due for Livery paint job & replacement of seats.

I think the report on that was actually referring to reviewing the financing for the 777s and not the actual order.

After coming up with a truly good livery on the new 772's, if they change that to some other design.....total disaster....why can't they just adopt this 772 livery for the new entity....?

rumor is that the scheme will stay the same but the centaur will be replaced with the symbol that Indian was using.

The merged airline will be called Air India BTW

And will definitely take them, of course once they decide on their new livery. They was also talk of looking for more 772LRs for the future.

Cheers

Well good to hear that the 777s will indeed ALL get to Air India.
The new fleet of this entity is going to be very diverse, including orders and current fleet:

744 (8 + 1 Combi)
743Combi (2)
773ER (15)
772ER (3 + 1 Non-ER)
772LR (8)
787-8 (27)
763 (1)
A310 (19)
737NG (20)
plus Indian's
A330, A300, A321, A320, A319, 737, ATRs and Dornier 228s

Very diverse fleet especially in the long haul dept.
Perhaps AI will rationalize to 788, 77L, 77W and a VLA
Short haul- that's a different story!!

A310 (19)

a little off topic but

I personally think its time for AI to retire their rickety old A310s, I wonder what can replace these??!! Any ideas?

A321??? or will they just use Indians' a/c to operate where the A310 now fly to??  Smile

Of course, there was a discussion on this somewhere, thanks though  Smile

So all the 19 will be converted to freighters??

Quoting Mohan (Reply 19):

Me too!!

Does anyone have any ideas how IC will go about achieving this??  Smile

Also, is there a date set for the arrival of the 1st 772LR in BOM or DEL??? Has the month when the delivery will take place decided yet or the cabinet is just being wishy-washy like the people at AI with their decision on the livery?

They have so far leased 2 A330s form what I remember reading on here.

So what is the reason for the 'delay'?? Painting into the new-new livery??

Of the 19 odd A310's that AI flies, only 6 or 8 of them belong to AI...rest are leased and will be returned at end of lease....it's only the owned aircrafts that will be converted to freighter use....not sure how many of them, as such....

In addition, I think the two 743's are also being converted to freighter.....

25 HAWK21M : Noticed a AI A310 freighter land & taxi out last night around 0200hrs.Was too busy working to notice the Reg marks. The MDCD cutout surrounding area &
26 Mtsubshe : air india is getting the 777 in late june, there is a possibility, that the paintings will be changed again,
