Thai urgently wants to increase its capacity on the CPH-BKK route - Thai's second most important route to/from Europe. Due to lack of available aircraft, Thai is looking to extend the 3 times weekly Bangkok to Athens route to Copenhagen, Wallop Bhukkanasut, Executive Vice President, Thai Airways says to standby.dk at the 10th anniversary Star Alliance meeting in Copenhagen. Within the next year, Wallop Bhukkanasut expects Thai to free up aircraft so that CPH-BKK will operate twice daily with 744s.

At the same time, US Airways is in the final stages of innaugurating a route between Copenhagen and Philadelphia from the spring of 2008, Andrew P. Nocella, Senior Vice President, Planning, US Airways told standby.dk at Star Alliance meeting in Copenhagen. A public announcement is expected in a few month.

What aircraft does TG operate BKK-ATH?

Anyway, great news for CPH if this happens!

TG 946/947 is a 777-300 so a unique aircraft for CPH!!!
Great for CPH indeed!

I remember a few years ago TG did the same when they flew to GVA (ATH was a stopover to BKK). Then they completely axed the route to the Swiss city since unprofitable. If I have understood what it's written in danish, TG is recording just a 50% load factor to Athens so CPH would go to fill the other half-size of the aircraft. What really surprises me more is that they are still flying to ATH with this poor load!

Good to know US is planning CPH-PHL, US keep on expanding to Europe and CPH is an important Star Alliance's hub in Northern Europe. So it makes a lot of sense.

The 773 at CPH.... GREEAAAAAAT.. don't think we have had any of these birds before. SQ sends a 772, as does PK occassionally, but the 773... yummy!!!!

Sounds "interesting" with BKK-ATH-CPH (in other words, a bit weird..).. But maybe it'll work. In the summertime it could be quite a hit I rekcon; however, in wintertime the CPH-ATH leg would be difficult to fill up indeed (I assume they would be granted 5th freedom). But then again, TG's planes stand idle all over Europe all day, so why not send it up to, say, CPH, and make a buck?..

But let's see what happens; six months ago TG were almost positive that they were gonna start BKK-CDG-HEL, that never took off..

...But the latter is also the problem. SK would hate for US to enter CPH from PHL; it would indeed hurt them on EWR and WAS. Even now SK won't transfer CPH-pax to ARN and onwards to PHL on US in summer.. you have to go to Malmo first!... So if US comes to CPH they'll likely have to rely on CPH- O and D pax almost entirely - but that's not so bad after all.

Interesting that TG say they are short of aircraft, just thinking where else their 7442 Configuration other than CPH and ARN long haul plus HKG and PEK short haul on a scheduled basis.

As I understand it TG will refit the 773's to the same as the 772ER's with PTV's in Y aswell, I was thinking that they are planning to use these aircraft on some longer routes other than just ATH really, I was actually thinking CPH and ARN could be good candidates to get them but thats just my opinion, then.

So is LHR or FRA more important for TG? I thought those 2 would be the most important then CDG, which I heard they want to re commence the second flight a few days a week like they had before.

I did not know they flew two daily to CDG. Does someone know what was the schedule for this second flight to Paris CDG ?

They're already annoyed at them for the ARN-PHL route, although it's summer-only

Neiher CO or DL gets much feed into CPH so don't think US needs it either

I am not sure how it is defined. However those were the words from Mr Wallop Bhukkanasut. The load factor on the CPH-BKK is close to 100% all year so the need for extra capacity is definately there.
