Hi there,

I just came accross this pic of an A380 in Star Alliance livery http://ten.staralliance.com/en/airports.html
In my oppinion a very good paintshop. So I ask myself how likely a *A airline will paint an A380 in this livery? The total order of this jet of Star-Airlines is at 40 frames (LH, TG, SQ).

The Star Alliance rule is that each airline must paint 3% of its fleet in the Star Alliance livery. I don't know any more detail than that, but there seems to be a requirement about sizes as I think I more widebodies than narrowbodies in the livery.

Funny thing is UA only has 2 in Star colors. A 777 N218UA and a 763,N653UA . No narrow-bodies,though.

in my opinion, we won't see one painted in the star livery for a while because the A380's are going to be something that the airlines are going to want to show off for a while because they are new and exciting, and they want to put their name on the side of it as big as possible to draw as much attention to the airline as possible. but i believe after a while, especially after A380 routes have been established and the aircraft is viewed more as "just another large jet," someone will paint the star livery on a 380 mainly because someone will want to be the first to have an A380 in star colors.

I thought it was 3% of the total seats. So they could have two narrobodies of about 125 seats or 1 widebody of 250 seats. That is probably why UA have a 777 and a 767 in star alliance colours.

Wouldn't be surprised if LH made one of their upcoming A380's in the star alliance colours. Singapore Airlines might make one in star alliance colours as well (minus the tail). Don't see Thai making one of their few A380's in the Star Alliance colours.

Could be. As I wrote above, I don't know the details.

I thought It was supposed to be 2 aircrafts per member 1 wide body and 1 narrow but preferably 2 wide bodies...Any more were always welcome by the alliance.

I am sure someone will do the livery maybe Lufthansa as it was one of the founder member of Star also 380 being huge gives enough opportunity to display the airline name.

The new star livery only has Star Alliance and the a/c owner carrier name unlike the previous one which had all the logos of all the members

well, considering the size of Star Alliance now, its not really a surprise that the livery no longer uses the logos of the members! is it something like 18 airlines as full members?

but with the massive size of the 380, the logos of all the members could easily displayed.

Half on one side and half on the other. I don't think it will happen because the current Star Alliance livery is better for branding the alliance.

The Star Alliance logo should be a bit further down , its too high . But it does look quite good. I didnt know the bit about 3% must be painted in Star logo.

there's no way you could have something like that now, even on the 380. but you could have something like this:

This picture is only 6 years old and except LH all liveries ceased to exist.
I liked these STAR schemes.
