HI everyone in the States I just needed your help, I dont want to give up a fantastic job oppurtunity in the US, and wanted to know if its really hard to get a ten year background check done, are they really strict, or how does it work? ( I have a Pakistani background and lived there for 3 of the ten years for the check)

Well if you have major jail time, then well, you're probably not going to pass. What is the job you're trying to get? But as long as you've been employed and a good person you shouldn't have an issue. On the other side, it's the US Gov.
Assuming its roughly the same one you go through for the airlines, you just need to prove employment for the last 10 years (they will verify w/ the employer), or if not employed, provide references/proof of what you were doing. That and verification of no jail time or pending criminal actions and that's about it. Even being terminated from a previous position won't necessarily be a problem as long as A) You're honest on the application about it B) You were terminated for something that disqualifies you for the job.

Be clear and honest - incorrect statements about your past throws up a huge red flag. Not as bad as a criminal record, but enough to disqualify you, or cause a very long delay while things get cleared up.
Good luck on your new job - hope things work out well for you.

Quoting DABTH747 (Thread starter): and wanted to know if its really hard to get a ten year background check done, are they really strict, or how does it work?
If it's the 10 year criminal record requirement for a visa don't worry about it. Just go to your local police station and tell them you need proof of no criminal record. They will most likely give you a form to fill out to send to the national police headquarters (Scotland Yard is the UK equivalent)
In the UK this only goes back 5 years, but the report does not specify how far back it goes, so it is accepted by USCIS.
thanks everyone, it was an LH job internal one, so it was a requirement on the posting to be able to obtain a ten yr background check by US customs, I am of pakistani background and lived there from 1997 to 2000..thats why I needed your help and opinions, I appreciate it all the responses
