Last year it was UA 139 (ORD-SFO), I have been on that flight 4 times since the 744 service was terminated and it has always been the Domestic 777.

Any this summer?

As with last summer ORD-SFO and the occasional ORD-DEN, ORD-LAX, IAD-SFO they usually dont schedule those flights. Meaning you may book your ticket and it will say a 777 or 67, but when you show up at the gate you will get a nice surprise. They also will occasionally schedule one random flight so you will have to look for them. I use UA timetable on my desktop and just play around with it when I'm bored. I know that the scheduled ORD-SFO last year was scheduled so they could bring a plane in for maintenance checks.

So if there would be a scheduled flight, it would most likely be SFO?

Most often. A lot of times you see the 11AMish SFO-ORD go 747 (scheduled). Every once in a while they'll do a few days of redeye SFO-ORD's with 747's in the summer. And occasionally you get some IAD-SEA 747's for a few days, last summer they did that a few times.

Occasionally a 744 will show up on the DEN-SFO flight. Not sure where it comes from but I noticed it a few times in the past year or so.

I was in DEN for work a few week ago and I booked two round trip flights on UA about 2 weeks apart. I ended up being on the 744 for both return legs (DEN-SFO). One was an extra section that they brought in from LAX due to a cancellation on an earlier flight to SFO and the other was an equipment downgrade. When I checked in at the Counter, the agent told me that they didn't have a seat for me right then because there was a change of aircraft. It was scheduled as a 777 so when I got the the gate I was expecting a 757 or something. I was shocked to see a 744. I couldn't have imagined that this would be a downgrade from a 777 but it must have been a domestic 777 scheduled.
They really cram in those seats on that bird.
Nonetheless, it was a very nice surprise to get the 744. Especially riding in first!  Smile

UA 747-400 (Worldwide) ::: 14/73/260 = 347
UA 777-200 (U.S. Market) ::: 36/312 = 348

Well...one seat.

Must've been a lot of happy GS/1K/1P...maybe even 2P...passengers on that flight!!

I am scheduled on a SFO-ORD flight operated on a US Market 777. I just hope it is changed to an intl 767, 777, or 747. Maybe my 02 B seat in F will be changed to Business or even First class of a 747.

I WAS ON THAT FLIGHT TOO!! I was checking in a passenger in FWA to DEN and I noticed a plane change, and being the concerned agent that I was, I checked into it on Unimatic and told him that he was gonna be on a 747 out of ORD! He took his boarding pass and failed to even smile at me for all that work I did for his good news...  Angry So I listed and went to DEN and came right back!

In the case of last minute equipment changes, its the gate agents responsibility to re-seat everyone after they do the aircraft reconfiguration in Apollo. If you suck up to them, they can put you wherever they please on that airplane (obviously in your ticketed cabin or higher). Sometimes on a 3 cabin aircraft upgrade I have seen them clear the upgrades into C (like they are technically supposed to) and then onload all the non-rev's into F.
