Just a short question: when will OceanAir commence flights to Nigeria and Angola? It has been announced a long time ago and the B767's are delivered...

My Portugese fails short to grasp the clue of this news report: http://www.portugaldigital.com.br/si...icia.kmf?noticia=6101602&canal=213

The article says that OceanAir has given the idea of starting flights to Africa for the moment a lower priority. First is Mexico, that it says that it expects to start operating in July, and to Los Angeles and Lima, later in the year too.

A second 767 should be delivered in July, and a 757 should follow later.

It is stated that OceanAir sees more potential in Mexico, for the connecting opportunities to the rest of the country and some cities in the US, whereas the African marketnrellies on origin and destination traffic, and where there is already competition, but that they do merit a couple of flights a week to Luanda and Lagos. Lots of business interests between Brasil and Africa.

I must say, I was rather puzzled about OceanAir concentrating its resources mainly on the African market, and wish OceanAir well on this new, more balanced strategy.

Incidently, the news of its alliance with BRA, that will lead to both companies codesharing on over 150 flights a day, is very positive news. I am sure they can unlock teh great Brasilian potential.

Hello guys, how are you? Juan, this is very interesting news. I am glad OceanAir is so interested in MEX. By the way, can you now accrue Avianca miles on OceanAir flights? I think it will be very important for OceanAir to offer to its customers a frequent flyer program. Any idea if Efromovich will take the necessary steps for OceanAir to enter into codeshare/mileage agreements with AV's codeshare and mileage partners?

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Heey Eduardo!
As far as I know, the FF programs are separate. I found this quite odd actually. I guess there will have a further step to merge them. I wonder, actually, if there has they need to negociate with DL and AF, with who AV has a frequent miles agreement.
However, BRA and OceanAir's alliance will include accruing miles on both airlines. What was announced at the press conference, is that this alliance could very well become deeper (I read fusion), and that it would include AV too.

Whilst on the subject, I read that AV has been talking to directives of Toluca airport. I wonder if it's on behalf of OceanAir for the 2 or 3 flights that they might flly there from GRU, or whether we will see flights from Bogota there too.

Great to see a Brazilian airline back at MEX, I'm sure the red carpet will be rolled out.

I agree, why having different programs, but hey, we don't know the details behind...

It's for Ocean Air, they can fly GRU-MEX non-stop only up to 5 weekly flights, two should be to Toluca.

Also, as a side-note, Varig requested the following:

VRN 8494 - GRU 1030 BOG 1420 1500 MEX 1830
VRN 8495 - MEX 1930 BOG 0100 0140 GRU 0930

Flights to be operated with Boeing 737-800 to be received by Varig.
Also CCS will receive a 738 !

Back to Ocean Air, they are requesting a new domestic network to ANAC. As soon as it's approved i will try to post here. At least they requested many flights out of CWB, SSA, BSB, CGB and GIG. Also a shuttle service SDU-GRU (because of CGH runway improvements).

Last thing I new is that they were working on a way to merge the program, but it seems it was more expensive to do than the benefits it could provide to AV's customers. IMO, Oceanair doesn't gives AV too much added value for now, besides the GRU-GIG run for BOG pax, and some other domestic routes, but once they get the new planes, they will be adding newer and exoic destinations in Africa that could really help AV with some niche markets. Anyway, their FF programs will merge sooner than later, and peple in Bpgpta are working on it.

Cheers

Wouldn't you think if AV really starts their cargo division some real improvements will be launched?? I might think that's the right way to go, but of course, I'm far far far from being either Mr E or Mr Villegas.

Wow, interesting news Juan and Felipe! Let us know if you find out more about this. It'd be very interesting to have flights to South America from TLC.

Hehehehe, well, the "red carpet" bit implies either you know something about JJ that we do not know or that you are just a big fan of JJ.

Wow! that would be pushing the limit of the -800's, wouldn't it? Even with blended winglets, I would say. Both BOG and MEX are high altitude airports. Would RG have to fly this with cargo penalties? I am assuming RG would have full traffic rights... suddenly the capacity in MEX-BOG is huge!

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).
