Hey there. I was wondering if any airlines have released how they plan to configure their A380's? If not, is there an airbus configuration I would be able to see? I am hoping to see Y upstairs!! Cheers,
Heathrow

I'm almost sure that upstairs Y will be 2-4-2 seat configuration.

Is that 3-4-3 or 3-5-3 on the lower level in Y class? 3-5-3 would be atrocious...

Why? I mean not that I like 3-5-3 (or anything above 2-4-2 for that matter), but the A380 main deck is about 19 inch wider than the main deck of a 747, which should be enough to fit one seat. And surely it is much less atrocious than EK's dreaded 3-4-3 777s ... 3-4-3 on the main deck in the A380 is rather spacious  Smile

3+4+3 will be standard, with around 18.5" wide seats I believe. However there was recent discussion about fitting 3+5+3 on an A388 and such a configuration was possible with ~16.5" wide seats.

Yes, it would be. But this machine was designed to carry huge numbers of the unwashed masses at the lowest possible cost very great distances. The fact that a large percentage of those flying will be forced to climb over (at least) two other passengers if they want to pee sometime during their very long range, non stop flight to some distant hub was obviously not a major design consideration, either by Airbus or by the airlines themselves which will order the interiors.

Still, it is reputed to be unbelievably quiet on the inside. I'm a big fan of the 767 2-3-2 and the Airbus 2-4-2 for that reason.
I go out of my way not to fly the 777 because I don't like climbing over people. And in retrospect, the 2-5-2 layout of the DC10/11, L1011, and some 777s was vastly superior to what has evolved. My 2 shekles.

....doesn't seem to be affecting EK any which way....I've flown EK tons of times, and I'll be more than happy to take their 33-34' seat pitch and narrower seats over a carrier with 30-31' seat pitch with wider seats.....

You'd enjoy (slightly) wider seats on a 3-4-3 EK 777 then a 3-5-3 EK A380...  Wink

My bet would be, Emirates would be fitting the most seats possible hence a 3-5-3 with Emirates would be it, thats just my guess... for Y class. I would be annoyed, if they offered anything less than 33in space...

Business class, i would not like to be seated in the middle of two people so if they decide to have a section with 3 seats or something weird like that in the J class section i would be mad.

Just my two cents!

Being in the middle seat in the heyday of the L1011's with 2-5-2 for even three hours was really no fun at all. And much as it pains me to agree with GeorgiaAME, there are a lot of great unwashed masses flying these days......

Personally, I doubt that we will see 3-5-3 on the A380. Why? Because the plane is only certified for 853 seats, and Airbus managed to put that many seats in the plane using 3-4-3.

It was?
IIRC it was designed to carry a larger number of passengers than the 747 in greater comfort.
This would certainly appear to be how it is entering service.
