The press release from GOL states that the problem was due to a bird strike. But just minutes ago, an authority from Infraero(brazilian state company for airport infrastructure) revealed on national television that technicians from the company didn´t notice any sign of bird strike in the engine, also stating that the problem was due to mechanical failure.
Nice one Brazil... Going quickly to a new ICAO level in september...
