Does JAL utilize aircraft to/from Hawaii that enable them to cram more passengers on board? I would imagine they use a combination of 747-400/747-300/MD11? Thanks for any help on this...

JL doesn't operate MD11's anymore since a couple of years now.
Indeed often the B747-300's are used on flights JL83/84 and JL73/74, JL77/78. (NRT-HNL)
Also the triangle flight NRT-KOA-HNL-NRT sees B747-300's, flight JL70/79.
NRT-HNL flight JL71/72 and JL75/76 are flown by B747-400's, flight JL75/76 with the international high-density cabin (up to 449 seats).
B772/773/77W is not used on the Hawaii flights at this current schedule.
Cheers,

The only time we get more than one 747-400 is when we have charters or flights that arrive earlier than 0700. The normal scheduled flight that normally arrives before 0700 is JO80/89 and is usually added for the summer months. Right now, JO76's scheduled arrival time is 0630 and is a 747-400. The normal arrival time is 0730. The KOA flight also changes seasonally to a 747-300, mostly during Golden Week and Christmas/New Years. There are only 1 or 2 747-200s left, but we do still get them as one of them is JA8150, which is the purple JALways Reso'cha aircraft. As for the 777, they are only used on charters to Hawaii and there is one scheduled for later this month. As for flight numbers, we changed over to JALways flights about 2 years ago as they were mostly already operated by JALways crews. The only time JAL flight numbers are used are on charters.
This is the normal aircraft schedule:
NRT-HNL
JO76/75: 747-300/-200
JO73/74: 747-300/-200
JO72/71: 747-400 (the only 3 class aircraft on the schedule)
