Yup, If your plane is not in the air and headed to ORD right now then you are not going. The airport may open as soon as tomorrow afternoon if the weather improves.

DTW is next to be slammed and is expected to be shutdown this evening with CLE also being adversely affected tonight.

MSP, STL is operating with some significant delays

CMH, CVG is operating with some significant delays. It is expected to get worse this evening.

NYC area airports are in trouble tomorrow.

Good luck travellers...

Try using IAD, DFW, IAH, MEM, ATL as primaries

MSP, STL and CVG are so so

The rest of the hubs are a mess

Thank you.
I's scheduled to leave tomorrow afternoon out of NY La Guardia LGA bound for Chicago connecting on an international flight to Brussels. I don't know what's going to happen, but O'Hare is expected to reopen tomorrow so I shouldn't have a problem. I'll tell you everything about my trip, I'll make a trip report before the end of the week.

Given LGAs awful delays since Air21 might I suggest contacting the airline and trying to get an early flight out of JFK. In a worse case scenario you could be protected on a JFK-Europe flight.

Just a thought

I checked the FAA site @1430 EST and there was no mention of ORD closing. Are you saying it "has" closed, or it's "going to close"? Also, how do you know this? Are you at ORD, or live in the Chicago area?

Just wondering.

Ben - call your airline and get a rebooking from NYC. ORD will be a mess tomorrow with stranded passengers and sideeffects from today, even if the sun shines.
They will probably happily do so.

I'm listening to ORD approach right now, and flights are getting in, but as you can imagine, it's dicey. ATIS has landings on 4R, and departures on 4L and 32R, UA and AA have cancelled most of their departures though, so the airport is currently open-barely.

Where are all these flights diverting too? I heard from an unreliable source UA was diverting theirs to DEN.

Yeah, they were predicting about 1ft of snow up in Chicago. The weather here in STL is bitter, with temps in low 20's and windchills -25. The storm barely missed us, so I had to go to school. Oh well!

There are still some flights arriving/departing at ORD. Very few though. I'm not sure where at CNN it says anything about ORD closing, but I checked the flight status of a few AA/UA flights and it seems as if aroud 40% are still making it in or out. We'll see if this keeps up though.

ORD IS NOT CLOSED and has not been closed today, although Midway is.

although 75% of flights were cancelled at ORD today it might as well be.

You can always go through DFW with SN/AA. There is a chance that DFW may close for tuesday or wednesday because we might be getting some SNOW!

The New York area had dense fog Monday morning that caused long, LONG delays at LGA. For some reason, the
delays were minimal at EWR and JFK. Flights out of LGA
were delayed for hours largely due to the ORD situation
but also due to weather around our area as well. Usually, it is Newark that is most severely impacted by
a weather problem.
