Why does a BA 747-400 have Qantas painted on the side of it? Is Qantas buying some of BA's older 744's? The picture is on Justplanes.com

I know Qantas has bought some used 747-400 from MH. Possibly they are getting some from BA?? Also, it may be to create extra capacity as Qantas is gradually installing its new Inflight Entertainment product into its 747-400s (about time too!)

I know they got some from Malaysian, as well as one from Asiana, but this one is still painted in BA's colors except for the Qantas title in black letters, like an interim scheme.

I think those were leased planes from BA - hence it's not fully painted into QF colours. They're used as an interim plane while QF's own B744s were undergoing upgrades on their IFS etc...

Megatop is correct, QF is using one or more BA B744 for the next few months while the Qantas B744 fleet is receiving a new IFE system (economy did not have individual screens until now). When the program is completed, the subject plane is going back to BA, thus, it is not in full Qantas colors. The 5 767-300 aircraft being leased long-term by BA to QF have been repainted in QF colors.

Dutchjet is also right, with two small changes

Qantas are only leasing 1 BA 744 G-BNLH now VH-NLH for a period of 17 months due to the IFE upgrade on the 744 fleet.

The number of BA 767-300's on a 7 year lease totals 7 aircraft. All of these planes are painted in full Qantas Colours, and have Qantas seats etc.

Hope this info helps.
