I know the actual ship itself is gone until Fall of 2008, but is Concorde still on the premesis?

Nope. It was moved to and is now on display at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn.

To rebuild the pier and dredge the waterway entering the pier

I think Floyd Bennett Field is a much better place for the Concorde, it's nice and dry. Also anyone could go there and see it without having to pay the exhorbant amount they charge to enter the USS Intrepid. Surprisingly enough, on a given day, there is not much people looking at the Concorde.

I was down in NY two weeks ago and wandered down to see the Intrepid and the aforementioned concorde. Silly me didnt check if it was open first! All I found was a building site and a dredger   Smile

I think G-BOAD's location needs to be better thought out. BA wanted a Concorde in New York and Intrepid is not really a that close fit.
Intrepid is a war musuem dedicated to war and fighting. Concorde was never part of this. Hence the people visiting Intrepid are interested in Military not civil.

To a Concorde enthusiast.. G-BOAD is an expensive concorde to visit, as it's 1 attraction in a theme park dedicated to something unrelated to civil aviation.

Though a Concorde does belong in New York, I can't offer a better suggestion for it... Central Park maybe ?

So far in 2008 45 flights and Gold already. JFK, IAD, LGA, SIN, HKG, NRT, AKL, PPT, LAX still to book ! Home Airport LCY

I have visited preserved Concordes at Seattle, Le Bourget, Udvar-Hazy in Washington, at MAN and recently FZO.
(Not counting long preserved prototype and pre-production airframes before and since airline retirement).

But not at Intrepid, since I've been on Intrepid before, in 2002, ironically I got there on G-BOAD, however realistic I am about the 2003 retirement there is no way I'd go see Alpha Delta in NY having got there in 7 hours, it's just a step too far for me!
Now if I'd got to NY via another city-as I did in 2004 (IAD and a lovely Amtrak trip to NY), and G-BOAD's ultimate display position is then settled, maybe!

BA have been waiting for this development of the Intrepid area as a starter for a long term, proper display of OAD, so once this is completed, the ball is in the museum's court to realise this.
Remember, BA still own this and all it's other Concordes.

I think this is the reason she is NOT permanently housed at Floyd Bennett Field... because it is out of the way where not many people will see her. BA wanted a Concorde in New York, not just for the historical importance, but as an advertising board. What good is an advert if no-one sees it? Intrepid is much closer to where millions of people a month pass through than Floyd Bennett. I have never been to America, one day I will. G-BOAD is on the list, as is OAG in Seattle and F-BVFA in Washington.

I came, I saw, I Concorde! RIP Michael Jackson

Are you kidding me? Most people in the world couldn't care less for an airplane.

I wouldn't want to see her displayed at a museum until the next one flys, museum displays are about firsts that have continued afterall...
