Yesterday (June 10th), I was walking in the woods near Frankfurt and was stunned to see an Iberia A340 approcaching the aiport. I was sure it must have been an illusion until I checked the CRS later and sure enough, Iberia flew an A340 from MAD to FRA yesterday. Does anybody know why?

According to FRAs flightplan an IB A340 comes every sunday after 11 in the morning. Was it between 11 and 12? Then it was the scheduled flight.

For a while now Iberia has been operating an A340-300, and even an A340-600 on some occasions, on Sundays between MAD and FRA. The flight number is IB3500/IB3507. However up till now I was under the impression the A340 operated the flight on Saturdays but I guess it is Sunday actually.

Quoting 764 (Thread starter):
Does anybody know why?

Was discussed in another thread recently, according to GatoVolador it is because of "cargo commitments". A340s, especially the -600 can carry cargo that might be too big or heavy for A32X or other narrow-bodies that IB normally uses to FRA.
