Hello All,

I just finished a trip to SBN that brought me through CVG on both legs of my trip and I had a few questions about the runway usage at CVG. Both times (in a ERJ to SBN and a 757 to SAN) we used 27 for our departure and arrived on 18R ( a 738 from SAN and a ERJ from SBN). I noticed very few departures on anything other than 27, other than the occasional CRJ or M88 on 18L. I know 27 is the longest RWY there, but 18C and 18L aren't short by any means. Why not stagger departures between 27 and 18C? Is the increase in taxi time to 18C not worth it or does the intersection of 9/27 and 18C/36C forbid this? Winds were calm, btw. I am also surprised that there is no LAHSO for 18C at TWY Kilo (which I would estimate to be at least 6000 ft available for landing aircraft...surely plenty for RJ's???). Do simultaneous triple parallel arrivals ever occur at CVG? Thanks for your thoughts...

Sure they do, I have been there many times when they have had simultaneous arrivals on parralels during peak times. I cannot speak however about the addition of the center runway 18C/36C. That may affect things.

It depends on the time of day. 27 is the preferred nighttime runway for noise abatement purposes. 18L ithe next preferred so if you were there anytime after 6 p.m. that's what you saw. The entire runway stepdown is isncluded in the airports PArt 150 noise program which can be found at www.faa.gov
