DL Operated By ExpressJet--New Stations?

Hey I know DL Connection out of LAX is all going to be by ExpressJet, but how about any other stations in SoCal or anywhere else where DL might wanna add these services. I think in SOCAL, they should come into LGB. They have the open slots, and it would be a good market for people who cant drive to LAX cause the distance and nobody else goes to some of those destinations. OKC, TIJ, etc.... What do you guys think of this. Is it a consideration.

ExpressJet will begin flying LAX-PHX in July 4x daily. This will be great when DL adds more International service to LAX.

No slots are currently available. Horizon and BAG hold the currently-unused commuter slots, and one of them will have to give them up or fail to start flights and use them in order for them to become available for ExpressJet/Delta, unless Delta were to reassign the slots they have and are currently using for the SkyWest flights to SLC.

It's 22 miles driving from LGB to LAX. Driving distance isn't an issue that will pull traffic from LAX.

I know but most likely BAG wont follow through and they have 17. Me personally its a hassle to drive to LAX when LGB is 2 mins away and LGB doesnt fly to the destinations i go weekly. From everyone i know around here it would be a good rumor according to peoples comments

That's the problem. It's ONLY people around where you live: more than 15 miles from LAX and less than 10 from LGB, or much closer to LGB than SNA. Otherwise, for EVERYONE else in LA, LAX, SNA, BUR and ONT are equally easy to get to or much easier.

I don't think your catchment area can support tons of flights on it's own. It would have to be combined with lower cost to get people to drive there, and since LGB is so limited in slots but still in an expensive location to operate, lower costs to consumers are not likely going to be profitable.

Oh well, in my opinion i think it would be a good idea and not just for me. Not just XJet but some other airlines. LGB is a great market, look at B6 but no one is pursuing it! LAME!

Others would pursue it, but it's not a very big facility, and there's a major slot problem.

Didn't AA fly 75s or A300s JFK-LGB at some point?

They flew 75s to LAX and MDs to DFW. And with the slot position..right now BAG has some slots (17 our of 25) and QX has an unknown number but theyre are still open ones, about 4. And from what i hear, BAG wont be able to follow through...so probably 21.

Just thought of something. Would DL be able to launch LAX-TUS with ExpressJet with ExpressJet independently operating ONT-TUS?

That could happen although I don't think Delta wants to mess with Southwest and United on the route wehn Southwest has 6 Daily and United has 5 Daily.

I'd like to see how quickly US retaliates. Good luck to DL.

LAX-OAK ~ 4x ERJ
LAX-PDX ~ 2x ERJ

They have ha a chance to retaliate and are not in fear of a few flights to LAS, and PHX.

US retaliating wouldn't have much effect; WN is the dominant carrier between LAX and PHX with 63% share in the market.

So it makes sense to spend an extra 60-90 minutes (minimum) in transit and connect at LAX instead of getting in your car and driving there? Just take America West/US to PHX and connect there if you can't deal with the drive to LAX.

They're a company based near Las Vegas and want to offer service to various short haul markets from LGB. Flights are to be operated by Island Air (from Hawaii) using Dash 8-100/200 and Q400. Last I heard they still had their slots.

BAG has 17, Delta has 4, Horizon has 3, and US Airways has 1. None available.

Not at this time. They are all being held by the airlines listed by Hawaiian717. That adds up to 25 commuter slots.

From the Long Beach Airport's activity report in Feb.

Quote:
LGB airport had 41 allocated air carrier flight slots- Alaska (5), US Airways/America West (4), JetBlue (28), Airborne (1), FedEx (1), UPS (2) and 5 allocated commuter carrier flight slots - US Airways/America West (1), Delta (4). In addition, 20 commuter carrier flight slots- BAG (17) & Horizon (3) have been allocated & expected to start service by late this year.
http://www.longbeach.gov/civica/filebank/blobdload.asp?BlobID=14790

Since that report, Horizon allowed their slots to go unsecured but then reapplied for 3 slots again. So those 3 are currently tied up again. No others available until someone gives some up. BAG has submitted a check to hold their slots.

Well that is only true if someone gives up a slot that is already spoken for.

So who are you hearing that is going to give up slots?  listen  There are ALWAYS lots of rumors but unless you have a good source all we can do is wait and see.

Quoting A380fo (Reply 17):

ExpressJet flying as DL? No.

It would only happen if they take over SLC-LGB. DL/DLConn would not do point to point out of LGB, only flights to a focus city or hub.

SkyWest is already doing SLC-LGB for Delta. There's no reason to switch that flying to ExpressJet since Delta's ExpressJet base is just up the freeway at LAX, while SLC is SkyWest territory. Plus, JetBlue is also on the route. LGB-DEN would really only make sense for United/United Express or Frontier since they've got the hub in DEN to support it.
