I was on Boeing's website this afternoon and saw an article on Lufthansa accepting its 375th Boeing jetliner which turned out to be a 747-400. The article discussed Lufthansa's current cooperation with Boeing on the 747X and that it has truly helped Boeing design this new family of aircraft. I wonder if this is a hint that LH will be ordereding the 747X family of aircraft?

To be honest, I can't see LH ordering the 747X...the fallout would be tremendous......this is the biggest Boeing V Airbus competition in a long while.......many of you in the U.S. have said the same about U.S. airlines ordering the A3XX...I think it would be the same here in Europe......the amount of trouble Airbus had dividing up the worksharing for the A3XX was incredible....it eventually ened up with it being built in Toulouse and outfitted and delivered in Hamburg, and they got the entire A320 line as well......and, it was dependent on the guarantee of individual countries loans........if they went Boeing, I think there would be absolute f**kin' murder, same with BA (not as much as LH though)......

If they were given 747X's for free, I don't think they could take them.......AS WELL as this, with EADS, a lot of worksharing changing of the entire company will take place soon........not good for Germany if LH went across the water........

Widebody i must dissagree EADS does not own Luftansa
and they can buy what they want. They will likley order
20 747x strech and 15 753 in a package deal

EADS does not own Lufthansa, but Germany's participation in EADS would be undoubtedly affected by an LH swing to Seattle on the VLA decision.....it's like saying El Al can buy what they want....they can alright, but the consequences would be severe......

Lufthansa is liking the 757-300 from what I am hearing and seeing on the internet. They have been playing with turnaround times and are now experimenting with interior configurations. My guess is that eventually LH may decide to float on back to Boeing for the narrowbodies especially with the 757 family. The 747X is an almost definate, but nothing in this industry is that way.

My Guess:
30 757s, both -200ERX and -300
20 747X

I expect we'll see an order similar to Qantas, with 747X ordered for short-medium term, A3XX for long term

You Boeing fans are like brothers to me, but you're dreaming on this one. LH won't place a major widebody or narrowbody order with Boeing for at least 20 years. The 753 deal is pure niche and easy for LH to explain (Airbus has nothing comparable). Other than that, they are completely in bed with Airbus and their government. Ever notice how Germany is the largest economy in Europe and LH has virtually no competition? Government says "rub my back and buy airbus and I'll keep you safe from new startups" and LH says "Ja wohl Herr Commandant". Sorry guys.

Unfortunately Wingman I have to agree with you. I would always like to see the best equipment choosen but I do think that the 747X has a very uphill battle. Good luck to both the 753 and 747X though. LH please prove us wrong!

I would like to keep my mind open and give LH the benefit of the doubt. Even Air France just bought a couple billion dollars worth of 777, and there is nobody as gung-ho over Airbus as the French. LH has a long history of Boeing aircraft in their fleet coexisting with Airbuses.

Hey, there's American money in Airbus too now. Isn't the German portion of EADS owned by Daimler-Chrysler?

This very article was discussed before, and also the fact that Boeing has some excellent PRs that are able to produce multiple press releases per day. No, I don't see it as a hint, and personally I believe that even Boeing is losing confidence in the 747X project (hence the shift of attention to the Blended Wing concept recently).

As far as the 753 goes, even if they like it enough, they don't need to order it since Condor (their subsidiary) has some extra ones that are not needed at the moment. So no package deal as well. Sory guys, I'a a big 747 fan, but LH will probably go for the A3XX (at least for PAX).
