Somehow fitting, since the airline's name is Champion Air.

Fly with us, and feel like a champion  Wink

Champion had the NCAA Men's Division I contract this year to fly all the teams that lost in the NCAA tournament home as well...  Wink

Didn't Champion have dedicated planes for the NBA, like Northwest use to have before they retired the 727?

I wonder that, too. I remember the Bulls flying back to Chicago when they were MGM Grand Air.

I saw this aircraft (N674MG) leave CLE today, around 1:30PM EDT. I thought about "giving it the bird" in its own glory, but I wouldn't want to do that to the poor 727, just the occupants inside

The Cleveland Cavaliers used to use that aircraft. Ironically, the Cavaliers are now using Champion Air as well.

Edit to include addition of info

Is that 727 fitted in exec style, or is it standard seating? I would really wonder if they kept the old MGM interior on that bird. MGM had a heck of a layout when they had that bird.

I believe they did, I know Miami Air had a dedicated B727 for the Miami Heat NBA team.

Checking the visiting PHX website from January its looks like besides the Spurs, the other teams that used Champion were the Lakers, Clippers, Memphis, Warriors?, Pacers and Hawks.

Champion actually bought the 727s that NW used for the NBA charters. They aren't solely for the use for the NBA. They only have something like 54 seats in them.

As of a few years ago, Champion Air did have a few aircraft in NBA configuration. We weren't even allowed in it, because supposedly the seats and interior were owned by the NBA, and wanted it private!! But in short, I am going to guess this bird was in a NBA configuration!
