Is L'Avion Doing Well?

On January 3rd, a new business class cpmany named L'avion took off for the first time from its base ORY to EWR. Ever since I have not heard much about them apart from load factors being on average 30 % ans ome flights being completely empty!

Would anyone know how they are currently doing ?

If it is any indication, they are selling 2 tickets for $3098.00 R/T... $1594.00 per person ~ During the summer months, and in the NYC-PAR market, I would say they are having problems filling seats. I dont give them much more than a year.

me too. I rememer 2 or 3 months ago having read the same week 2 articles in 2 different (reliable) magazines, one saying they were flying with very low loads and sometimes almost empty and another one saying that business was good and that they were in advance on heir business plan !

L'Avion flies the Boeing 757.

As much as I would love to see that happen, it's not going to, or at least it shouldn't. The premium demand from Boston to Paris and vice versa appears to be quite small based upon AF's operation here. Obviously there is a decent amount of demand on both an O & D and connection basis, but the fact remains that there is little premium demand. If AF can't make a four seat First cabin work in one of the most affluent metro areas in the United States, there is no way an all business airline could make it work on top of AF's dominance. We don't even have an all premium carrier to London, we should within a year or two, both maxjet and eos have been mulling it over, but even then, there is only room for one carrier and I pray it's eos. Paris seems so seasonal as there are few if any substantive business ties between the two cities. I would bet there is more O & D premium traffic year round to at least Frankfurt, Zurich and Munich based on the financial and life science ties.

As was discussed at length a little over a week ago, MaxJet (true E+), SilverJet (true J), and Eos (true Intl F) all offer different products and serve different markets, especially MaxJet versus Eos. MaxJet is offering E+/low-end J for an LCC kind of price versus Eos offering an F product marketed as J product for double MaxJet's price.

I am well aware of their services as I have flown eos and maxjet in the past two months and found eos to be a better value, hence my desire for eos. The fact remains that even with the differentiation in service, there is still not enough room for both carriers.

Doing a price comparison the other day for next day travel, BA was charging $10,000 for a NYC/LHR/NYC B/C return, Maxjet was around $2700, NYC/STN/NYC. Sorry but BA isn't worth the extra 7grand, quite outrageous really for such a short flight. I had a nice ride on Maxjet and a nice Limo driver into London, enjoy having the extra 7grand in my pocket and not in BA's

WSJ did an article today flying SilverJet LTN-EWR-LTN and L'Avion EWR-ORY-EWR. They gave Silverjet an excellent review, L'Avion much less so, especially their ground handling.

From a financial standpoint, all of their premium class-only competition (EOS, MAXjet, SilverJet) all suffered major losses in the first year (and then some), so I would assume it's a fair assumption L'Avion is fairing the same. Also, with just one aircraft and the high fixed costs, they cannot spread their costs over a network or another aircraft for that matter.
