S7 for one are going to have an interesting fleet in the future (735/734/738/787/A319/A320/A310/maybe Tu-204SM)

Also Atlant Soyuz's first IL-96-400T has been built:

Yes it is kinda interesting that S7 took both the 738 and the A320, since either would have been a good replacement for the 734s (as the A319s will take care of the 735s). Perhaps they just felt having planes from both manufacturers gives them an edge for future orders.

Perhaps. Especially if they do indeed want to "spread the wealth" across both manufacturers.

I just cant see the point in an airline ordering 738s and A320s simultaneously. Its partly understandable from the likes of Aeroflot, but I believe S7 is a private organisation.

S7 is obviously planning aggressive growth, so they are probably insulating themselves from availability issues down the road.

In three years, if they need new narrowbodies, if Airbus can't get them A320s but Boeing can get them 738s, then they're covered. Same if they want new widebodies, but Boeing is full meeting existing 787 orders. Here comes Airbus with some extra A350 slots.

This is why I would not be surprised one bit if EK does indeed buy 748s and QR buys 787s, even though the former ordered a shed-load of A388s and the latter the A350. With their expansion plans, they can't afford to be caught out waiting for supplies of a model to become unconstrained. Look what the delay of the A388 has done to EK's current expansion plans, driving them to take every 77W they can get their hands on even if the rates are not as favorable as they wished.

I thought the 738 was intended for charter division.

It may be an uncomfortable fact for Airbus fans, but it is still a fact. EK principals have said they are leasing additional 77Ws because their A388s are delayed, so yes it is "Airbus Bashing", and when you consider it is "bashing" from an Airbus customer with upwards of 200 of their planes when you add in-service, on-order, and rumored frames...
