As usual the media manage to screw up the facts about pretty much everything. According to local sources from ATC in LLW, the plan did not come down in Bad weather by due to CAT, which is prolific at this time of the year along the southern rift valley. Of course the ground was covered in a thick layer of mist which made the search much more difficult. The plan was en route from Rumphi, and not Rumchi. The North is not teaming with wildlife, but has a very unusual natural park called Nyika, which geographically looks similar to the Pennines in the UK. It is very strange and surreal to see zebra's wandering around in the mist and fog, and it gets rather chilly up there too.
My deepest sympathies to the families of the victims, this will be yet another blow to Malawi tourism.
Kind regards QM001
I wish there was still a flying boat service on the African Lakes!
