It seems reports are saying EK will order 10 more A380s.... will this go for their low cost airline?

Quote:
PARIS, June 18 (Reuters) - Dubai-based airline Emirates [EMAIR.UL] is set to place a provisional order worth over $3 billion for 10 Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft, industry sources said on Monday.

If this proves to be true, the A380 will hit the 20 order mark very easily this year...

provisional order

What the heck is a provisional order? Is that another way of saying MOU in sheeps clothing?

The airshow is really leaking. Will see which web sites get the real scoops and those that just start rumours.

The 20 per year target might have been adequate before the events of the past couple of years. A target of 50 a year for the next 5+ years is more in line with program needs now IMO.

There are conflicting reports here. One states 8 x A380 for EK and 60 to 100 x A350XWB according to Les Echos. Meanwhile La Tribune reports 10 x A380 plus 80 x A350 for QR.

Didn't QR recently state (rather surprisingly) that they wouldn't order any more A380s beyond their 2+2?

So 10 from Qatar, 10 from EK

That will bring the total to 188(?). Not bad.
I will post something that got deleted before.
22 carriers for 178 747-100 and -100Bs
13 carriers for 188 A380-800.

It is a different time and market. But I would say that even in this changed market, this plane is doing okay. There are still a few more carriers that I think will pursue it.

If Airbus have really got the hiatus of the last few months behind them.... when Airbus did the roll out of the A380, Emirates were there saying there was one problem - the A380 was not big enough. Wonder if EK will take any of their orders as A380-900s with 100 extra seats.

Why conflicting?

QR will firm up the 80 A350s and buy another ten A380s

EK will buy eight A380 and 60-100 A350.

Maybe I should have been more concise but the Reuters report said 10 x A380 for EK whilst your report and another I had stated 8. QR is wrong it's for 3 extra A380s hope that clarifies things for you  Wink

Think that may be slightly more that we here this week - but if half of the roumers come true this will be a good week for the boys (and ladies!) from Toulouse!

OK, the majority of the reports are 8 A380s for EK.

Only 3 for QR? I only read everywhere that it was 10. Maybe the media can't keep QR and EK apart.

Anyway, tons of speculations this morning, I guess I'll wait for official announcements.

Yes. But I suspect the first press conference will be a general update on all things Airbus. The order news is usually revealed at the "Customer announcements" scheduled during the week. Airbus normally puts a schedule on their website.

The best week of the year, but that was expected.

I don't know. If that is true I'll go back to sleep and try not to wake up before tomorrow afternoon.
