And what about Continental Micronesia to Guam? Do they count as an Asian airline?

Looks like I'll have to head north for the 3-4hr drive to CNS to see the 744 for the last time then.   You forgot to mention the Garuda Indonesia and Air New Guinea still fly to Cairns plus Continental Micronesia does too, but they are more an American airline. Is SIA the only airline to operate the 744 into CNS?

Qantas737,

You may want to go SOUTH to see a SIA 747...at Sydney. SIA flies the A310 to CNS.

Qantas737 - I thot SIA operates only A310s on their scheduled CNS flights? They use B744s for only 2 reasons - either to cater for peak period high loads (which is now) and as a military charter (thought more likely to Rockhampton)... So, I don't think you'll get to see a lots of B744s in CNS huh?...

Last time I was in CNS, which was in July, I saw a SIA 744 at the terminal. I don't know if it was for any special reason, but I never got a photo of it   Well I can just hope that some Intl. carriers will one day return to TSV!

I can understand why SIA is probably not pulling much business from Cairns. Really, it is because they are operating the old A310s. As you all know, they are a shocking aircraft and certainly can't compete with Cathay's A330s and Malaysia Airlines' B777s that all have personal TVs. If SIA were to place the A340 or the 777 on the service I think that they would find that they would pull better business but I suppose this is not a viable option with the fleet shortage.

Cheers,
AH

MH operates 333 to CNS, not 772!
And 333 have no PTV's.
I flew with MH CNS-DRW-KUL on 18th July 2000. The plane to DRW was only 30% full! First Class was empty and Business too! Only Economy passenger from CNS to DRW!
And DRW-KUL only 2 First class passangers! and 3 Bus-class!
Question: Why does MH fly with such a big plane to CNS????, and not with the 737, like Garuda??

Continental runs a profitable 737-800 there and nobody complains.

Maybe it's just because the service is so good they don't even notice that there are no PTV's and it's a narrowbody!
