Longer-Range 747-400

Is it just me, or is this a silly name for an airliner. According to the Boeing site, everyone should stop reffering to the "747-400X" and instead use "Longer-Range 747-400".

OK, maybe there is not enough of a difference to justify 747-500, but something must be better than "Longer-Range 747-400". Why not the 747-400LR? 747-400 Super?

Its designation IS 747-400LR. The 777X became the Longer Range 777, which is 777LR...

That's my point. The official designation is NOT 747-400LR, which I think makes more sense. I know many will call it that, but to make a comparative into a title?

It's the English that's bothering me.
