I'd like to open a thread covering the assembly and progress of the new Sukhoi Superjet .
Sukhoi have managed to sell their first 10 (+10 option ) aircraft to the Italian airline Itali-Airline.
As we cover largely the progress of the Boeing 787,it seems just reasonable to devote some news and intelligence on the newest Russian aircraft. While still built in traditional aluminum technology, the aircraft is nevertheless a first,in that never before such an extensive amount of technology from the west has been incorporated in a Russian transport-system.
"The first test flight of the Superjet 100 is scheduled for September 2007. A large number of Western companies are subcontractors on the project, which has set an initial goal of building 700 planes.
The company declined to disclose the price of the plane, though trade publications have estimated it will cost $25 million."
WIth Boeing,ALenia,Snecma and other western companies investing in the SSJ100 program,it looks that the first "Western" style Russsian regional jet will take off as well in Europe and the Middle East.

I suppose that new russian aircraft full of western technology will not be allowed to be sold in Iran, Syria, North Korea, Cuba....
Could you confirm that?
Thanks

If so...That would not be a very big problem, in selling terms, for the new Superjet

I don't see any particular issues with Syria ,since they have bought Airbus A320's...
Iran ,Cuba and North Corea might currently still be a topic, but I have read yesterday that Cuba has been taken off the red-list - so even Cuba should not pose a particular problem.
The aircraft is still considered a Russian build produce...so denying the sale to certain countries but simultaneously complaining about those countries airlines not complying to our safety, comfort and security considerations is illogical.

International trade compliance would more likely be applicable to military or software technology. As long as FADEC and other commercial software technology is protected, export to 'non-western' countries (to use your description... would not be a problem.
We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.

Even tho I love Russia, My business is in Russia and let me explain to you what happened here.
This Italy order of the SuperJet was a Italian government request 100%
Russia did most likely give them a outstanding deal, But, Italy bought these planes to suck up to Russia. Lately, they have been doing alot of this. That is the reason why AEROFLOT is so involved in purchasing ALITALIA.
For Russia it is very good as western carriers maybe alittle more open to ordering Russian Jets.
I honestly believe this plane will be a sucess AirFrance/KLM I believe will definitly order it. Oh and imagine how many of them will be based in Rome & Milan if Aeroflot were to buy Alitalia which I wish.
AirFrance KLM will most likely replace there Fokker's with this plane. Good Luck to Sukhoi wish them the best.

Fits in here:
Quote: Alliance Air, likely to transform as a regional low cost carrier under the newly merged entity, Air India, is in talks with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft for purchase of its 60-90-seat offering, the SuperJet 100. Alliance Air is likely to be positioned as a 'regional carrier' under the Air India Express brand.

FYI, BBD had the intitial delivery of a CRJ700 to China held up by the US government over a "dual-use" chip that is in the TCAS.

Beaucaire, thanks a lot for your interest on SSJ progress and for creating this thread. Unfortunately, it did not attract as much attention as first 787 photos thread
The main news is 10 airframes ordered by small Italian regional carrier ItaLi. That was announced at Paris air show. Definitely that order was driven by Sukhoi's partnership with Italian Alenia and Finmeccanica companies. But anyway, it is the first non-Russian SSJ order which is very appreciable.
