How full are these flights? I don't think that Lufthansa could make that much money. I know that they do only one flight a day, but I still don't think that there are many people on those flights.

Im sure LH makes good profits on this route because during summer season there are 2 DAILY flights. Why should they fly twice daily to a destination without good profits? (LH420, LH422 B747-200 and A340-300)

KLMBlue: Lufthansa does very well on this route. Of the three times I have taken this flight (LH422/423) they were full. Lufthansa has a daily 747-200, and during the summer has an additional flight (LH420/421) using an A340-300, up from an A300-600 two years ago.

However, United is looking to start flights next year using the 777, so we may not get the second Lufthansa flight, as they opt to code-share on the UA flight.

I do know that US Airways tried a BOS-FRA route a few years ago, but it was dropped after the Summer season. Apparantly it didn't do as well as planned, but I think that was due to the lack of advertising. I didn't even know of this route, until after it was cancelled. However I did see the US 767s landing a few times.

Just to give you an example of the booking situation right now.

I checked my flights for Dec24th outbound and the return on the 6/7/8 of Jan.

Here are the booking details for each day.

This is the configuation for the B742.
F8 C51 Y330

Here are the seat booked so far.

F0 C11 Y242

Outbound very light in F/C/M

Inbound to BOS is a different story.
First and Business are looking pretty good a few seat are left , but the back of the bus is minus 30, means overbooked.

BOS is an absolut passenger oriented market.
Don't forget all the other carriers like SR,AF and BA which also have a share on the FRA market.

BA operates three daily widebodies (777/777/742) out of BOS.
SR twice daily A332.
AF 763 daily and a second one 4/5 times a week.
All these carriers offer exellent connection to FRA as well.

I have flown the BOS FRA leg a couple of times (C-class) , different month of the year, and can ensure you that LH has a goad loadfactor.
Economy is always full, C and F class varies.

Hope this helps.

Seasons Greetings

LH have a monopoly on the BOS-FRA route. UA will probably operate one of the two LH flights.

US did fly BOS-FRA for six months but management
decided to focus on transatlantic routes from the
hubs and Boston is not officially a US hub.

Unless things have changed, LH has the earliest evening flight from Boston to Europe (around 5:00 PM), and the flight tends to be nearly full most of the time with people making connections at FRA.

Yes things changed:

BA has the earliest fight to Europe:

BA 238 (B772) ETD 8.45 am

LH has still the earliest evening outbound flight:

LH 423 / ETD 4.55pm
ETA 6.00 am

this of course varies as a lot of times tail wind really pushes you home.
Two years ago on the 24th of DEC I flew on LH 423 to FRA, flight time 5.20h.
I and the crew thought that was really fast.
Last year I was proven wrong as I was flying home again on the 24th of DEC on SQ 026 and we had a nice tail wind up to 180 kts. Actual flight time from JFK - FRA (5h 20 min)

I wonder what makes you post some statements like this... Why te hell wouldn't LH have a lot of passengers on its BOS flights. These flights link a prime American and a prime European gateway.

So, if posting a questionable statement like this one (to use the understatement of the year), try to come up with some proof or at least some examples to support your statement.

If not, people would be forced to think that you are only posting this topic out of some selffulfilling desire of admiring your username on the screen.
