Just to advise, the last one Boeing 777-200ER under Varig colours, PP-VRF, will depart GIG probably this Monday or Tuesday (June 25 or 26) due to a technical problem (should be this Friday, June 22nd).
This is the last of eight 777 that Varig operated till their problems in June 2006 to depart back to lessor after received good engines (PW4090). Rumors that the new operator will be Royal Brunei.
It will fly as N208UA and up to know i don't know the destination.
As soon as GIG confirm it's departure i will post again.

Quoting EddieDude (Reply 3): Interesting info Felipe, thanks for the posting. What's up with ex-PP-VRB? Is it already getting maintenance prior to its delivery to AM?
PP-VRB is at China being prepared for Aeromexico at the same facility that was used for PP-VRA.

Quoting Mexicana757 (Reply 9): Is PP-VRB going to become AM's fourth 777?
Yes, it will be the fourth and it will also be leased. The first two (Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo) are brand-new planes, whereas the third is ex-PP-VRA. Originally, AM agreed with ILFC to receive 3 brand-new planes with the last one scheduled to arrive at the end of this year. I have read here that AM no longer will receive the third brand-new plane because it was able to get both VRA and VRB, and because of AM's bad financial situation and the pending sale of the company. I hope this is not the case and AM will receive the third new one as planned, for a grand total of 5 777s.

Quoting Jetfuel (Reply 12): N208UA is actually a United 777 callsign. Am I correct in saying this a/c was with Ua before Varig up to 2004?
Yes, they rejected the lease as part of their bankrupcy. Varig had 4x ex UA 777's. 2 ER's and 2 regulars. AFAIK Air India has the other 4 ex UA "rustbuckets" that they rejected. (3 ER's and a regular)

Hey VC10er, it depends on whether you will fly in a 777-200ER or a 767-300ER (MEX-GRU is not yet an all-777 route because of AM's lack of sufficient planes). The 772ER has much better Clase Premier seats than the 763ER, with a much better IFE system too. Check the website of AM, Amadeus or SkyTeam to see what plane you will be getting. If you have the time, look for a report in the trip reports section about a NRT-TIJ flight in business.
