for the last two days US Airways has been using TRI (Tri-Cities Regional, TN) for training flights. These flights included DC-9s and the enormous A330-300. I sadly did not get to see these pretty birds at my hometown airport, but supposedly they have been doing touch and goes for the last 2 days. Very exciting, but disappointing when you realize you missed a "once in a blue moon" opportunity. I talked with controllers in the tower (thanks guys) and they said they were very kind to the US Airways personnel so they would come back. As TRI is not very busy at all, it is a great place for training flights. For those of you who don't know where TRI is, and i wouldn't be suprised if most of you didn't know, it is located in northeast tennesse, farther northeast than knoxville (TYS). It would be great if they came back, as i would love to see an A330 doing touch and goes.
It would also be great if there was some webring which you could look up unusual activity at an airport...such as training flights. it would help me and others tremendously, as we would not miss opportunities such as this...
Also another incident today...a Comair CRJ (N924CA) diverted to TRI due to a broken door handle. It was enroute from GSP-CVG when it made the landed at 1900z.
