Greetings all,

Done a quick search for this but can't see anything mentioned about it - Air India's 3rd 777LR VT-ALC looks like it will be the first one to be seen in the new NEW livery as it ferried down to Victorville last Monday for painting according to my source.

Flightaware.com also confirms the flight here.

Keep your eyes peeled folks!  spin

Looks like VT-ALA also flew down to Victorville yesterday. Perhaps -ALC is almost ready to return?

Strange. VT-ALA (wearing a N6018N regn. and still in centaur livery) returned to PAE after only one day down at VCV.
Matt Cawby has the evidence.

Aren't they going to start SFO with the 777LR?

Either way, I wish I were in VCV to see it.

BOE13 flew down yesterday, BOE11 came back from VCV today, went down there on 18June.

So why does FlightAware say BOE13 went down there on June 18 and BOE11 went on July 1st and back July 2nd?
I thought that BOE11 may have been used to ferry down some large spare part for BOE13 which is still down there.

I'd keep an eye on the cactuswings web site. They are usually pretty good at getting info/pics on the desert airports including VCV. Off course it temperatures today have been over 100 degrees (40 C) so I am not too sure how many brave souls made it out to plane spot.

As far as I know the first long-haul route will be BOM-JFK which will commence on August 1st.

She was next to the Jet Airways 77W in front of the 777 paint shop this afternoon. Dreamlifter 2 (?) is also parked on the ramp just east of the main runway up against the fence fronting WA-526. You get a great view of her on the drive towards Mukilteo.

Weird, it does say BOE011 was yesterday, but I was actually at PAE when it left yesterday and swear it used 013, but maybe I am wrong  Confused

Weird that it would return unpainted. Also odd how long the original frame has been down in VCV. Usually they can paint a 777 in 3-4days shop time, but it has been 13+ days.

PDX should see a 767 JAL ferry flight (717) in the next day or two, and when that happens 566 will be coming back. I won't say what airline it is but I am sure you can figure it out  Smile

Ah, thanks for the correction. The angle from WA-526 is a bit bad to read registries, especially since I have about one second at 100km/h and am also watching for merging traffic.  Smile

I think it's because there is a lack of paint hangars. One is occupied by the first 787 being painted and also being kept out of public view until Sunday. That leaves Boeign with only one paint hangar left so they''ll be using the facilities in VCV until the 2nd is freed up after Sunday.

There are three paint booths, one is open, one is being refurned, and one has a very special airplane that is being worked on (not the 787).

The 777 paint shop is currently housing the first 787. It will be available no later then Sunday.

The 747 paint shop is currently housing VC-25 28000 and has been for about a month now and will continue to do so for some time more, it appears.

That leaves just the 767 paint shop, which can only handle the 767 and those only come out of the factory about once a month.

So at the moment Boeing needs to send 777s and 747s to other facilities for their painting.

Out of curiosity, what exactly is the Air Force One doing in a paint shop for so long?

By the looks of it, all 3 paint shops are the same size. I thought you could put a 747 sized aircraft in either one of them? I don't see the point of aircraft specific paint shops.

Part of it has to be the paint job has to be absolutely perfec. No "looking good from 50 feet is good enough" rule for this baby. There may also be some additional work being done.

The 767 paint shop is noticeably smaller then both the 747 and 777 shops. I imagine Boeing decided to "right size" each shop, rather then just build multiple "one size fits all" shops for space considerations.

So does anyone have contacts at Boeing who may spill the beans on any or all of the following questions.

1. Why has VT-ALC been at VCV for such a long time?

2. Why did VT-ALA make the quick trip down there and back?

3. Are the rumors on the internets that AI will take delivery of one of the 777s on or about 7/7/7 true?
