I was picking up family this morning at MCI and was shocked to see a 763 pulling away from the gate. It is a bit of a surprise to see a wide-body here. Maybe it was used on a temporary basis since most of these flights appear to be MDs.

They do a lot of maintenance on 767's at MCI, and from my understanding, to get them in and out, they fly them on revenue flights replacing the MD80s that normally (almost exclusively) serve MCI. Might as well, if you have to fly it to/from MCI anyways. It probably picked up a regular 767 route at ORD.

Yes, they do a good amount of maintanance on the 767's at MCI. They do also put them on flights from DFW to MCI as well.

Sometimes airlines would upgrade airplanes at last minutes for some reason or no reason at all due to routine aircraft maintance or something. Airlines work in very strange or myster way. Continental never send 757 to IND and early this spring there is it CO boeing 757 parking at either C10 or C9 gate.
