A.net friends,

Anyone have status on the new BusinessElite seats upgrade? And what are they actually doing to them? Are these brand new seats?

I'm flying BIZ Elite on Friday. Maybe I will get these new seats?  Smile

Thanks,
Tony

Tony,

You won't get the new BizE seat/suite, but you may get the upgraded product. The upgraded product has new memory foam, leather covers, AVOD and a larger angle of recline.

New BizElite seats also have AC power; it's towards the back of the seat under the armrest. Much easier to use than Empower (like the older generation). The refreshed BizElite product is still very nice; was able to get some decent sleep in it before.

Great. How many of them have been upgraded?

I'm flying ATL-GRU

I just flew ATL-GRU the other day. Same seats in Biz Elite but still beat AA! This 767 will probably be one of the last since it was still in pre wavy-gravy color scheme!

The interior mods and repaint mods are completely separate and independent of each other. For example, all of the 757s with the 1997 Ron Allen livery have the new leather seats. I haven't heard of Delta doing both an interior mod and a repaint at the same time.

About 70% of the 763ER fleet has been upgraded so far with the 'refreshed' BE seats and the new AVOD system. DL105 ATL-GRU does get a fair number of the refurbished 763ERs but since DL doesn't particularly dedicate aircraft to specific routes, it pretty much depends on your luck...

In my experience, repaints usually don't happen until a C check.

Do any of the DL 777s have the upgraded (or "refreshed") BizElite seats? Or has it been confined solely to 767s? Flying DCA-ATL-DXB-ATL-DCA in a couple weeks in BE.

Yes don't worry about it, you will have the refreshed product. It will be nice to not have to worry whether you get an upgraded interior or not. 777's are a sure bet. I flew on a couple last week though in coach, interiors are fresh, clean, and the AVOD works most of the time. Only had to be restarted twice.

This started before Delta announced they were going to use the new flat bed sleeper suites. This is a good stopgap solution, not just for the leather, but for the new IFE. Also, it isn't set in stone yet that the 767s will be getting the flat bed sleeper suites, and the ex-TWA 757s will probably not get them due to space concerns.

All 777s have been redone - BizElite as well as all Y seats with the new AVOD system

The BE seats were first introduced in 1999 IIRC and they are getting 'tired'. Besides, the new product will take until at least 2010 to be fully rolled out, a bit too long to go without a 'refresh'....

What is the new AVOD?
Is it Panasonice EX2?

It's the same Panasonic system, I believe, as on the ex-Song 757s. Only difference is that instead of the "Live" satellite TV found on domestic flights, the TV section has episodes of dramas and comedy shows.

I couldn't tell the difference between the Song AVOD and the BusinessElite AVOD (except for having the live TV of course). Not a bad product, but I would say below the VS/SQ/etc. of the world. Biggest thing I'm happy about is Delta putting in AC power in these planes now; I used to have Empower, but have not been able to find a tip that works for my new computer, so it's pretty useless to me (I should eBay the thing). AC is real nice, as now I don't need to get a seperate converter, etc. - just plug it in and go. Hopefully, when the 737s and 767s come out with their new seats with TVs, these planes also have the AC adapters in them.

In the 777s are they changing the Y class seats or just updating the IFE?

The seats are the same, only refurbished in leather. Luckily, the economy seats on the 777s (and the 767-400s) still feature the winged headrests. Some of the newer 757s had winged headrests in economy, but they were removed when they were converted to Song. Many of the 737-800s also used to have the winged headrests, but they have also been removed (even before Delta changed them from cloth to leather). A few of the newest 767-300ERs have the winged headrests, and I have heard they have been kept as well.

The 737-800s and the domestic 767-300s are slated to get new slimline seats (presumably the Weber 5850 model seats) to increase their capacity by about 10 seats. It is rumored that these seats feature winged headrests. Either way, they are supposed to be more comfortable than the current seats of the 737-800s and domestic 767-300s. The current seats on the domestic 767-300s are not as tall as on other aircraft, and are in fact too short to fit PTVs.

Hi Tony, we'll know for sure only on the day of your flight. The Acft that is suposed to do DL145/29JUN is ship 1612. But before that, it's flying BRU-JFK today, then JFK-LGW, LGW-JFK, JFK-ATL and finally ATL-GRU. As we know, if something goes wrong along the way, everything can change. I know there's a thread regarding which ships already have the new BE configuration, but I just couldn't find it  Sad

Does anybody know if 1612 is already reconfigured? However I do know it's a CF6 powered jet (though it has nothing to do with your question!!  Wink )

Regards
Carlos

Here is the new Businesselite cabin on the 777. I believe all the 1600 series 767 aircraft are modified and have the Pannasonic system installed.

No, not quite. I believe that 1604, 1605, 1609, 1610, 1612, and 1613 have not had the mods; someone from DL can correct me there - I flew on 1605 in early June and 1613 two weeks ago and both still had the old BE seats and IFE.

None of the planes in Delta's fleet right now have lie-flat beds - they will be introduced on the 777-200 LRs. All 767-400s operating with BusinessElite do have the refreshed product though, as illustrated in post 20.

when are these 77L suppose to arrive?

25 1337Delta764 : I have heard that they are supposed to arrive in February/March 2008 at FlyerTalk and at Wikipedia. I cannot confirm that though.
26 LXA340 : This is really so much better than the stupid 2-3-2 config which is usually put into the 772's. With this the with of the long haul AIrbues is really
27 HanginOut : With the new biz class seats (lay flat beds in a herringbone configuration), the layout on the 777s will be 1-2-1 (the same as Air Canada and Air New
28 Coal : The refreshed product looks nice an and all, but I find it disgusting the amount of sweat one must produce while sleeping on them. It's like sleeping
29 A340600 : I don't think many airlines will opt for those seats in J cabins, it isn't practical for many.
