Many routes carry primarily business traffic, or earn most of their profits from such traffic. Since most people are on vacation during the summer, business traffic drops off drastically. Can only assume that they don't consider these routes lucrative enough during the summer, or need the aircraft for routes they consider more profitable. I don't think AMS-BHX is exactly a major holiday market!

Given the Canadian climate, there is probably more of a seasonal shift on services out of this country than any other. Winter -- heavy focus on Southern Climates (Mexico/Carribean/Central-South America)
Summer capacity shifted to domestic and International flights (Europe/Asia, etc).
