The May '07 figures were just released.

Of the ten largest US Airlines, AirTran was:

#1 for On Time Performance
#1 for Mishandled Bags
#2 for Denied Boardings (B6 was #1)
#2 for Complaints (WN was #1)
#3 for Completion factor (B6, CO were #s 1 & 2 respectively)

Not bad, considering the crazy growth.

Could you clarify these? "#1 for mishandled bags" reads like they had the most mishandled bags, but I assume you actually meant least. Same with the next two.

Also, what exactly does "completion factor" mean?

Congrats to AirTran for some impressive Ops numbers. I find it interesting that out of the same competitive set, Delta ranked #2 in On Time performance just behind AirTran. Not only that, but Delta has been in the top tier in this category for the last 6 months. So much for those who claim ATL delays are horrible. If that were the case, neither AirTran nor Delta could consistently produce such good On Time results. That being said, Things do get dicey at the World's busiest airport during weather events that can cause not just a few headaches.

If an airline has 100 daily flights and flies everyone of them with zero cancels then you have a 100% completion factor.

If you canceled 2 of those 100 flights that day you would have completed 98%

the factor is the percentage of completed flight over a month or quarter.

Sorry, I just assumed most people on airliners.net would know what the Department of Transportation categories referred to. In simplest terms:

Mishandled Bags, Denied Boardings, and Complaints RANKINGS are determined by the order of the carriers' percentages of mishandled bags/denied boarding/complaints to DOT (lowest to highest).
