UA is retiring 25 727's in 2001,accelerating the retirement process of this classic aircraft. The reasons is due to skyrocketing fuel and labor costs. The airline expects to have retired the entire 727 fleet by 2003 and has ordered 13 additional A319/320 a/c to replace them. The average age of the 727 fleet is 21 years.

Ah jeez, that subject line should read United, not Boeing! Sorry about that-it's late.

What about other carriers operating 727s.....??

Boeing Makes 727, but United is retiring their 727s.

Does That Make Sense...??

Actually, there are some points that should be clarified...

UA is speeding up the retirement of these planes so they dont not have to be D Checked again, and UA is retiring all 3 person cockpit planes.

The next truth is the rising costs, but the main thing is to get rid of the three person flight crew.

Those planes could do another eight years if UA wanted to keep them.
