I was just wondering if anyone had had a similar experience......DL lost/misplaced one of my husband's bags on the 16th. He was returning from MEX on flight 252 and one of his bags never made it to customs. The agent there said it was probably already at baggage claim. But it wasn't and so we waited awhile, searching, and then filed a claim after standing in a long line. Don't know what was going on at ATL that night but it was crazy even for ATL, and there was a lot of misplaced bags, judging by the lines at the baggage service center. Anyway the next day we get a call from a delivery service....they have the bag and are going to deliver it to the house. The guy says to leave a note if we're going out, telling them where to put the luggage. So after work, the note is still there...at dark its still there. When we go to bed we turn off the porch light thinking they will come tomorrow. 3:48AM, the phone rings and the woman can't find our house, will we please turn on the lights. Is this normal? Are you supposed to be so glad to have your bag that it doesn't matter what time it is? I thought this was extremely odd. Has anyone else had something like this happen? BTW this is the first time we ever have had a bag lost/misplaced.

I've had this happen to me and some people I know. They always seem to deliver it in the middle of the night or very early morning. I've never had them call either ahead of time or on the day of the delivery, they'd just leave it at the door. I guess if they couldn't find your house they'd call such as you experienced.

I have NEVER had a misplaced bag delivered to my home between the hours of 9 AM and 9 PM. One very simple way to avoid this is to have it delivered to your workplace. Tell the company that it can only come between X and Y hours, and it will show up then. Unfortunately, telling them to deliver it during the day to a home for the sake of convenience doesn't usually work.

well, AA, HP, and CO have lost my bag at some point in time... I've never had them do this... maybe it's the service they use... I've always told the agent where to leave the bag prior to finishing the claim, and no one has ever called at odd hours... from my days at the ATO, I seem to remember in CLE that there was a premium for late hour delivery... dunno... I hope it doesn't start..

Why do I fly???

I have experienced myself being misplaced! Ok perhaps not that dramatic as it may sound.

I was making my way from Moscow to Edinburgh (to a Uni) via flight Moscow - London Heathrow - Glasgow and thought I'd take a 1 hr bus ride from Glasgow airport to Edinburgh. The reason I intended to fly via Glasgow is coz I was familiar with the city, while I haven't been much to Edinburgh. Decided I may even stay overnight in Glasgow, look around then travel to Edinburgh. Well anyway... turns out that International Officer at the Uni I was heading found out my flight details and called BA to have me put on an EDI flight instead of GLA (the BA shuttle service to both airports out of LHR is frequent throughout the day, at least was in 1997). I wasn't aware of this change. BA, as I found out later, sent a staff to meet me at the gate after arrival to LHR, but appears we didn't cross.

As I arrived to GLA discovered that my luggage was missing. Went to BA agent, desrcibed my bag, filled in a form. and there it was - they tell me the situation with the flight swap. It was 22-00 or so. And a BA employee comes up and says - Okay let's go, get you a taxi to Edinburgh. The taxi turned out to be his own car!! He drove me all the way to the Uni and passed me to their reception. The bag arrived the next day to the Uni reception. So I assumed they managed to divert my luggage LHR-EDI, while I still went LHR-GLA. That's what I call service, overall a nice experience, considering the numerous stories I read that lost luggage was never seen again etc. Btw, the International Officer told of his experience travelling to Tokyo when he lost all his bags and never got 'em back.

Just got a bag lost by AA on ST-LGA last night, was delivered by 4PM today, not bad, although annoying as it wasn't a connecting flight where I'm more understanding of baggage missing the flight.

We deliver all baggage that comes in late as long as the passenger doesn't prefer to come get it themselves. We have an outside vendor that does it.

I've even had my baggage delivered as a nonrev (by my airline) which apparently is not common at all.

Working at a hotel and always having bags delivered to guests from airlines, I have never seen bags delivered during normal business hours. Seems like it was always after 1:00am when they came in. We would always call the guest the next morning unless they had directed us to contact them immediately upon arrival.

Ironically, AA lost my bags two weeks ago and I just got them back last week. Knowing how they delivered bags, I had them sent to the hotel I work at, and of course they came in around 3am.

Having worked as a baggage delivery person at BNA, I can tell you that, especially when it's busy, delivering the lost bags is a 24 hour a day operation. However, my company had a policy that passengers had to be contacted within 2 hours of their bags being received... and then they had to have the bags 2 hours after that unless they lived more than an hour away from the airport...

But yeah, I did a lot of dropping bags on people's porches at 3 in the morning... tried to avoid calling them that late, though. And most people didn't leave the note like they were asked.

Make something Idiot-proof, and the Universe will make a more inept idiot.

This same situation has happened to me twice on two different routings:


Both times they delivered my bags home.

They came the day after the bag was lost both at Frankfurt and Amsterdam.

So, I consider it to be usual.

Returned to LHR ca. 1100hrs on a BA staff ticket after a JFK-LHR to find no bag.
Wife's bag was fine.

Went to report it and was told the delightful news

"It's coming on Concorde, they'll bring it round later"

Sure enough, the white van arrived with suitcase "BA002 RUSH" tags attached and I had the bag by 2100hrs after Concorde landed ca.1800hrs.

Impressed? I was!


1. I could never imagine a delivery at 0330hrs!!
That's just ridiculous.

2. Once you had a Seat, you were treated as a Commercial psgr on BA - I certainly wasn't expected to go to LHR and pick up my own bag just because I was on a staff ticket.

I lost a bag a few years ago flying NW Beijing, Detroit, Birmingham, AL (BHM). My home is a one hour drive from the airport. When I woke up the next morning about 4:00am (because of jet lag) the bag was at my door.
