Is there a leading opinion on how the A380 might effect air traffic at major US airports? On one hand it seems like the reduction in flights from each airline using the A380 into a city might reduce traffic, but if this indeed forces more people to use these ports as hubs to get to their final destination it seems it could have the opposite effect of increasing traffic. The 787 seems like it too could have to different and opposing effects.

Also, is there any solution to the problems posed by the dramatic growth (will this growth continue?) of RJs? It seems like the current system under such growth is unsustainable as the delays from this summer indicate.

In terms of the physical effects, the A380 is very similar to B744 in its wake vortex category. In itself it won't cause delays to other traffic. You can read about it here: http://www.airbus.com/en/presscentre...s_items/06_09_28_vortex_study.html

In terms of knockon effect, I don't see it being a growth generating aircraft, that is generally the preserve of aircraft upto B737/A320 size being operated by regionals and LCCs. It will not sell/operate in sufficient numbers (certainly not to the USA) to have any quantifiable effect in passenger number growth at US airports.
