I'll be happy to tell you how you can get from LAX to John Wayne by public transportation as soon as I figure it out. There must be a bus service for that route but you can also try getting on the Metro rail to Long Beach, where the Queen Mary is at, then take a bus from there to John Wayne. However, don't get surprised at what you see on that train because it passes through the worst parts of L.A.(3'rd world America) which is hard to believe since this is considered to be the number one economy of the world.
I can probably e-mail you the websites to the MTA(Metropolitan Transportation Authority) They will help you out. I really wouldn't know (Angelenos don't use public transportation, it's against our religion ) but I can e-mail you the info later.

Take SuperShuttle (or one of its many copy kat competitors). Last time I did it it was about $40.00US. Travel time is anywhere from 35 - 75 minutes depending upon time of day and day of week. 405 freeway southbound is the route.
Shuttle passenger pickup is lower level center islands. Don't know exactly, but there are a lot of signs pointing out where to get them. You can call SuperShuttle and pre-arrange a pickup or just go to island and find their representative (Blue Jacket with SuperShuttle on back).
Sorry, best I can do. AA provides contracted services when needed, but uses SuperShuttle when all else fails.

Hm is it normally safe to travel the metro of LA since you tell me it goes pass the tough neighborhood.
That said, I use the metro in Paris all the time and some areas that are not very safe either.

United Express operated by Skywest (something like that) flies the LAX-SNA route. They fly hourly flights using the EMB-120s turboprops. Yup, I heard of the IAH-HOU route, but in the DC area, the shortest is the IAD-BWI route on the J32s operated by Atlantic Coast Airlines, Inc. Why fly there if you have a car.
