AM 033 MEX 12:10 BCN 6:15+1 Mon, Sun
AM 034 BCN 08:50 MEX 14:40 Mon, Sat

Flights will be operated with Boeing 767-200/300ER. Such a shame it will start so late, i'm sure we will have no surprises and route will be a total success.

Wonder if AM is bringing an extra B767....

Great news Rich! I'm sure AM will be a total success in the route. I think the 767 will be a good start for the route just to see how it performs and all.

Congratulations Aeromexico! Only LHR's missing!

Cheers

Anyway, this is great news for AM. Hopefully GIG and LHR are started in the not so distant future!

Yes, Indeed.

Now, could some retaliation from Iberia be expected ?

Sounds like a great new route for AM...I hope is does well. Is the MTY-MAD route still operating and if so, how is it doing?

BTW, AM has had a lot of activity at SAT this summer, running some charters flights as well as the daily MEX flight. They park right next to WN at SAT and it's a treat to see every day. Also Aeromar is back I think twice a week with the ATR's but I'm not sure where they come in from.

It was about time for AM to open this route.

I think it has to do something with the expansion plans at BCN. Iberia has changed its mind about BCN. Months ago Iberia didn't want to open transatlantic routes at BCN, in fact, IB left all operations to Clickair.

In the media, here in BCN we've been reading lots of reports about BCN autorithies wanting to launch transatlantic flights from BCN, (with the coming opening of the new Terminal Sur). They were looking for some airlines to start operations, so I think they could have approached to AM and they reached an agreement that resulted in the opening of this new route of AM.

I think BCN is gonna grow in the next years.

Now I'm living in Barcelona, so, as a Mexican, this are great news for me Big grin

The next logical step will be to launch services to London- LHR, or LGW whichever.

Maybe Italy would be more logical since there are two Aeromexico's partner hubs (Skyteam Alliance).

Unlikely. Aeromexico's partner in Spain is Air Europa and will enter SkyTeam in September. For the time being their only commercial agreement is AM's block codeshare on UX's MAD-CUN route, but likely to change in September.

At last, another American airline has seen Barcelona as a hub and a great destination in Europe after Aerolineas Argentinas, Avianca, Air Transat, Continental, US Airways and Delta.

Will I see ever the AM T7 operating to BCN?

LAN, the next is my bet...

AM could extend its BCN service to either FCO or MXP until it gets more longhaul aircraft. I think that London and a German city (FRA or MUC) should be high on Aeromexico's priority list. Although AMS is a major Skyteam hub in Europe, I doubt that AM will fly there anytime soon.

Still no answers? It can't be that AM will keep an aircraft on the ground at BCN all week?
What's up with that?

Will it be ferried to MAD?

Well, like MX-757 explained, IB has announced it will start flying long-haul from BCN. I guess we can see this move by AM as both a response to the great demand for this route and also as a preemtive strike to IB.

Quoting RAFVC10 (Reply 14):

Well, either the 777-200ER or the 787-800 eventually, once AM completes its fleet renovation process a few years down the road. For the time being, AM's 777s are tied up flying daily to MAD, 2x weekly to NRT and 2x weekly to GRU (dunno if CDG ever gets the 777). AM will be receiving any time soon the fourth 772ER (ex-PP-VRB), which should help turn GRU into an all-772ER route. It is unclear whether AM will receive a fifth (third new build, fifth overall) 772ER this northern-hemisphere winter. If they do, maybe we can see NRT going to 3x weekly and/or EZE and BCN getting 772ER service from time to time.

I want to say I wish AM great success in this route! I think the demand is there and AM will definitely see good loads and good yields. I only wish AM had more long-haul planes. MEX-BCN deserves in my opinion 4 weekly flights and all-777 service!

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Longtime waiting for this AM in BCN.

Who is going to be next in BCN?

It will sure be a total success. Now people having BCN as a final destination will finally get the chance to avoid MAD and IB. I hope fares are good, in that way, AM gets full flights and steal pax from IB. Finally what we all were expecting a long time ago is happening. Thank you IB6400!!!!!!! This are really good news... a movement that should probably have been years ago, probably since IB started to increased its 7X frequencies.

I very much like this kind of movement lately done at BCN and EZE, hopefully IB6400 can help me out on this one, but why not starting with 3X?

AM's long haul to Spain will be:

MEX-MAD w. B777-200ER.... 7X
MEX-MAD w. B767-200ER/300ER... 2X
MEX-MTY-MAD w. B767-200ER/300ER.... 2X
MEX-BCN w. B767-200ER.... 2X.

That will make 13X to Spain

vs. IB MAD-MEX w. A340-300/600.... 12X?

Last winter they were flying again 14X (as they reduced it to 12X), they later went again to 13X and i don't know if they went back to 14X or their current status... despite AM's offer increase, IB seems like not being affected by AM.

Perhaps, i don't know how it would play and affect to IB's flight if AM pushed 3 more frequencies on MEX-MAD on its second daily flight plus the other 2 via MTY. I also don't know if bilateral would allowed this.

Quoting KLM685 (Reply 1):

Yeap!! Congrats... come on!!! We are missing LHR and MXP/FCO!!! It would be a total shock for me if AM gets to AMS or even more if they return to FRA!!!

Perhaps 2008 could bring another new destination.... AM needs at least 3 B777s and an additional B767 to cover all that. I can see China too sometime soon.

Ghost, is this confirmed for all-year long? I thought AM was only serving MEX-MAD 7x weekly with 777s... I wonder how the people who fly the outbound leg in 777 feel when they discover that the inbound leg is in a 767.

With respect to MTY, I had thought AM had terminated its non-stop MTY-MAD service. Good thing that they are still serving the route!

Only seasonal, some days is being cancelled because of the lack of passengers, also sometimes because of the lack of planes.

Really good news for AM, they have covered spain, IB is "sleeping" there, as mainly most of their passengers connect to BCN insted of MAD from MEX, this with the MTY-MAD will leave them with some low loads.

Saludos

MMMmmm, I recalled an interview with AM's director for Brazil at the end of March:

Quote:

With the current fleet (including N181LF), I see MEX-GIG possible if the 2X additional MEX-MAD frequencies are seasonal.

If I recall correctly, when XA-OAM joined the fleet, AM increased service to MAD up to 11X, but later, the service was downgraded to 9X or 10X.
