Heading the news bulletins this morning was the news that AN's 762 fleet are all grounded due to "an unspecified engineering directive".
Ansett are promising all passengers that they will reach their destinations today but are announcing significant delays and many cancellations around Australia. Also affected are tonights services to Bali and also delays are expected to the HKG flight (presumably to use the 744 on domestic sectors).
For those who don't know, the 762 is the mainstay on the huge MEL-SYD and SYD-BNE routes as well as selected other sectors.
Anyone know anything more???? It must be serious to ground the whole fleet (6-8 planes I think).

I heard it was CASA saying that Ansett has breached some maintenance regulations. Ansett has grounded the fleet on their own will saying "Safety comes first". Unlucky for Ansett seeing it is the busy Christmas period now! Anyway I hope Ansett get them back in the air as soon as possible!
