QR has put in an application to fly daily from Doha to Accra
If granted, QR will start in the 3rd quarter of this year.
will this be an extention to LOS? or will it be a direct service?

Most probably a tag on service. I dont think a nonstop connection would warrant a daily flight.

+ They will not have the required amount of aircraft to operate this route as a single operated route from Doha unless a major re-shift.

My guess is the route will be Doha-Lagos-Accra.

There is enough demand for a daily ACC-DOH especially for connections to DXB, BKK, DEL, HKG, CAN, BEY and even europe
EK i believe flies a 6 weekly or daily to ACC with a340

But I dont think EK flies nonstop there.

BTW, do you know about the fuel shortages in that part of the world?

EK787/8 is flown 5x weekly with the 3 class A340-300 non-stop.

Lagos is flown by the 77W daily on the other hand.

Speaking of which, why was LH told they could only operate twice weekly? Or is that a red herring?

Then they'd have to make the DOH LOS operation daily, before anything, wouldn't they? Currently, QR flies thrice weekly to LOS with three vastly different schedules. Horrible operational setup and far from commercially desirable. If anyone would like to make a case study about beaten up, asymmetric schedules, then QR is definitely the airline to look at.

Applying for and actually flying are two totally different things.

The issue was that LH only had 2 assigned frequencies and were using the additional 5 assigned to Ghana Airways through a code-share agreement that they had. As this agreement expired, they would be only allowed the two frequencies which prompted them suspending the Accra service.
I hear that the issue has been resolved and they will be resuming flights, possibly as early as this week.

Quite true. But my haunch is that QR will indeed start the flights to Accra as a tag on from Lagos. They have seen how well EK is doing and want to tap into that market. I'm wondering how this will affect the other Middle Eastern carriers. I know already with EK moving in that MS and MEA have probably felt a sting.

What would be the point of applying if they didn't have a firm intention of flying there, just for the hell of it?

That's usually a sign of a route that is still maturing. Usually before a route goes daily, its schedule is made to be more constant.

 checkmark  Finally some common sense.

Whatever frequencies they start with, this is excellent news for Accra and West Africa.

Looking more into it, QR also has posts for positions in Abidjan, Dakar, Maputo and Lusaka. Is QR also poising themselves for a big expansion into Africa?
