The CO gang will support the CO application (I signed), the DL gang will support the DL application, and the NW, AA, US and UA supporters will sign up for their airlines. Lots of signatures, lots of PR, and an additional level of drama in the applicaiton process......does the DOT really care? I think not.

I would have to agree with you on that. In my opinion this petition is really just a publicity stunt to make CO's customers aware of the possible new service. Also, this petition triggers topics like this on a.net which is free marketing for CO.

I signed it , just like the last time they were up for the route. But I agree with you guys, It does not make much difference to the DOT.

You're probably right. The first route case I know of wherein the DOT acknowledged a public clamor may have been TWA's DCA-LAX in the late 1990's. In that case I always felt DOT was grasping for a reason for the award to TWA and used the public support that only TWA mustered. As a result, it's happened in numerous cases since then and all it does is burden the docket.

The DOT should tell all the airlines "We are aware that each of you can muster thousands of supporters, so please don't."

I just don't see a 'through' service flying with DOT.
