Hey everyone,

Does anyone have any updates on the gates that DL will be giving up in Terminal A? Which airline has secured them, if any at this point?

Thanks,

Scott

Massport has announced that CO is moving [back] to A.

Thanks guys, I appreciate that info. So does that mean that FL will move into the current gates of CO? I certainly hope so, because their current set of gates are claustrophobic and dinky.

That doesn't sound like the plan, if you had read the Globe graphic you would have seen that JetBlue is expanding into the former Continental space and Airtran is going into the former AC space.

Also, a rumour is circulating that the Crown Room in the main terminal at BOS will become a joint Crown Room/President's Club - much like ORD, which is a joint WorldClub/President's Club in the style of a WC; BOS is rumoured to stay as a Crown Room in terms of decor; but with CO agents (who it will be nice to see there, since they were great to me the times I've been). I'm hoping at least CO's snacks come to the new joint club; real nice to be able to get breakfast bagels, etc.

My one question is CO's use of gates 11 and 12a; I thought I remember reading a rumour of Commutair wanting to concentrate in the midwest only now; not to mention that several of CO's BOS Beech routes (SLK, RUT, PBG) are EAS and not being bid on by Commutair (RUT has Cape Air and DL/Big Sky; SLK/PBG have DL/Big Sky bidding); CO has already been cutting the BOS Beech operation too; HPN, ABE, BTV are all gone, leaving just those three EAS cities. Since it appears that CO will no longer have a Beech operation, will they really have a need for Gates 11/12; they run mainline-only Monday-Friday; on Saturdays they run 6 ERJs to BOS (4 EWR/2 CLE) and on Sundays they run 1 RON out of BOS to CLE; everything else is mainline. They'd easily be able to accomodate everything into 4 mainline gates, so I'm curious as to what they would do with the extra regional gates; I doubt DL would want to re-lease them, since they've got gates out in the satellite that they can use to do some regional ops out of.

My thoughts exactly why does CO need one more gate than they currently have?

I am speaking as someone who is yet fly out if the new terminal A in BOS, but are both the crown clubs the same size?

The moving of both AC and CO really is a great think for FL and B6, as it gives them more room and room to expand here in BOS. I have heard rumors that FL is looking to start service to IND. I personally think they should just move FL completely into Terminal C and demolish the old, and very ugly, terminal D.

As far as the CRCs in BOS, the one in the satellite is somewhat larger, and I have always found it to be more pleasant... certainly a better view of the tramac, always something of vital importance to an a.netter.

I've found the one in the satellite to be a lot bigger, at least in terms of the general seating area. Personally though, I prefer the main terminal one; just seems a lot more cozy. Although I'm probably a bit biased since I use the main terminal one a lot more than the satellite, just because most of my BOS flying is on Delta Connection, so I don't feel like going over to the satellite just for a lounge.

Well, 11 and 12a are really only RJ/prop parking positions. And it's very possible that the plans that were made in May included the Commutair EAS flying which is now apparently going away.

On an unrelated question, has Massport found any use for gates B37 and B38, as well as the associated ticket counter? AFAIK these have been vacant since the US/HP merger.

Well since CO has an extra gate, do you think they would maybe add a new mainline route or two? CO isn't big on p2p routes, but you never know..

CO caters to the large Corporate presence in New Jersey, specifically the pharmaceutical industry. The pharmaceutical industry is huge in New Jersey, the Boston area supports the New Jersey facilities through R&D. Some of the major players in the pharmaceutical industry in New Jersey are in Central Jersey, Merck, Pfizer, Bristol Meyers Squibb and many other companies are along the Route 1 and Route 287 corridors.

I think CO might have enough support/demand from corporate partners to warrant nonstop ERJs from Trenton Mercer (TTN) to BOS, right now DL has three daily CRJs. Bristol Meyers Squib is close by to TTN in Princeton, the Princeton area corporations have strong connections to Boston. I could see CO do well catering to these folks with ERJ nonstops from TTN to BOS.

You also have the huge Merrill Lynch campus across 195 from TTN in Pennigton, I've been in there a couple of times and it's a world unto itself set amongst the beautiful farms of Pennigton.

I could also see BOS-ACY, especially on FRI, SAT, SUN. The Borgata and the other casinos need to support more route development from ACY.

Gates were still empty when I passed by a couple of weeks ago - the security entrance is all gated up. JetBlue was using the gate as a RON parking spot.

I guess you learn something new everyday. I never knew that all the pharm work down here in Jersey has many connects up in Boston. But besides that, would CO consider possibly a few caribbean routes or florida routes from BOS?

IIRC, Mass and NJ are the 2 largest Pharma and BioTech centers in the US. It makes sense that they would be connected somehow. I totaly agree with STT757's analysis. CO could do really well on the TTN route from BOS.

As far as I know, CO does no mainline point to point at all. I could be wrong on this.

If CO has an extra gate, they can always lease it back for the several charter flights that use terminal A on a frequent basis.

Nope, buisiness travelers.

Honolulu-Nagoya
Seattle-Anchorage
Los Angeles-Honolulu

Note that Honolulu used to be a CO hub, back in the South Pacific days.

Perhaps, but going up against Delta in that market might well be a prescription for both to lose money. And they'd also be stealing traffic from their own EWR-BOS flights.

I don't think ACY is a big enough draw for New Englanders anymore, what with Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun being 90 minutes from Boston. And if a casino in Middleborough really ends up happening, ACY would be even less appealing. Yes, people still go to LAS, but Vegas is Vegas, baby.
